i well remember playing at skipton ru, which in older days had been a top club. the old wooden stands were testament to how grand the pitch had been but when we arrived they were shooing off the sheep that had been allowed to graze to keep the grass short. unfortunately the sheep had left on the pitch what sheep usually leave and people were getting plastered with it. not nice packing down in the 2nd row when the prop in front of you has his shorts plastered in manure. :-&cogito ergo sum wrote: ↑05 Feb 2020, 23:11I remember winter rugby when pitches for regular matches were often interesting. We also played on public park pitches, school playing fields, tarmac playgrounds etc. Blaming the training pitch which rarely has public on it in the off season is a bit of a stab in the dark.

Re: Next up Wigan
Had a game called off in Halifax (can’t remember which club) cos when we went into the club after pre match warm up a car drove on to the pitch did a couple of doughnuts then got set alight.lurcher wrote: ↑06 Feb 2020, 00:21i well remember playing at skipton ru, which in older days had been a top club. the old wooden stands were testament to how grand the pitch had been but when we arrived they were shooing off the sheep that had been allowed to graze to keep the grass short. unfortunately the sheep had left on the pitch what sheep usually leave and people were getting plastered with it. not nice packing down in the 2nd row when the prop in front of you has his shorts plastered in manure. :-&cogito ergo sum wrote: ↑05 Feb 2020, 23:11I remember winter rugby when pitches for regular matches were often interesting. Wetherby ru similar situation to yours at Skipton. Also a lad gettting an infection from the dirty sand put on the pitch at the willows to soften the ground. Cas played there the week after. It’s not the end of the world that the pitch used for people to watch a Bonfire it brings much needed income to the club and I don’t get how you can blame injuries on it?
Re: Next up Wigan

Re: Next up Wigan
Is it still the same, after a game as finished, people still cut across the training pitch to get to their cars up wheldon rd.
I know many years ago I used to do it.

Re: Next up Wigan
If anyone fancies a bit of training ground nostalgia You Tube still have the video of when John Noakes came to Cas for a week in the seventies, a great watch, "Cas rules ok" training as it used to be.

Feki was in the Toronto friendly.
Foster is a recurring knee issue that he damaged against Leeds at Headingley, no?
Cook seems to be nothing to do with training but a problem that hasn't previously been picked up.

Re: Next up Wigan
No, the injury keeping Feki out was suffered in training following the Toronto friendly, early in the week before the league game.HuddsTigers wrote: ↑06 Feb 2020, 14:54nottinghamtiger wrote: ↑06 Feb 2020, 14:20McMeeken - training.

Foster - the injury he has now is not the original injury he suffered, its one he picked up in training during recovery.
Cook - not too sure, but it could be more of an underlying issue rather than an ‘injury’ so to speak. But my understanding was it occurred during early pre-season.
Re: Next up Wigan
Stand corrected, was done in training. Maybe it was the weight of a double buggy causing deep impressions on the surface...Nobody wrote: ↑06 Feb 2020, 15:06Yeah Feki pulled up after scoring his tryHuddsTigers wrote: ↑06 Feb 2020, 14:54nottinghamtiger wrote: ↑06 Feb 2020, 14:20McMeeken - training.

Re: Next up Wigan
Double buggy’s do weigh a bit especially with size of some of kids I’ve seen in them.
You don’t see buggy’s in Wigan Leeds or other clubs training pitches.

Re: Next up Wigan
Saw a lot of sewer water on the Leeds ones the other year? And same thing at Wigan’s if they still train at orrell.

Re: Next up Wigan
I'm just going to go ahead and ignore all the whining and conspiracy theories about training pitches and prams and so on, and talk about the threads actual title: the Wigan game.
Wigan weren't great against Warrington, Jackson Hastings in particular didn't seem to live up to his form of last year - so hopefully we're catching Wigan during their traditional slow start to the season, Hastings continues to misfire, and we can nick 2 points, although pitting our injury hit squad against their talent-laden one means it'll be a difficult ask.
I think Wigan to win by 8, and it'll come off the back of some Jackson Hastings magic just to show me up,

Re: Next up Wigan
What a load of tosh from some on here blaming the training pitch.
Wasn’t it the same Training pitch, with the same public access in 2017 when we went nearly all season without injuries?

Re: Next up Wigan
2017 as been the only season since DP took over that we haven't suffered from loads of injuries, but this season seems worse than ever.
Some thing can't be right , what are the likes of Saints , Salford etc doing differently, one season you can put down to bad luck but when it becomes a reoccurring theme changes need to be made.
