I didn't know who all the players were tbh Braytontiger marked my card about young Hodgson a few weeks ago and I watched out for him coming on just looks like a kid with a big future threw one super pass to open them up
Gregory again did well when he came on

I attended the game yesterday. As previously stated Widnes put out a near full strength team. The Very youthful Cas team put in a committed and honest effort throughout. From memory there were two twenty minute spells where Widnes failed to score. A couple of their try’s were fortunate ones off the back of Cas mistakes. I feel that 24-10 would have been a fairer score line. Hard for any young player(s) to stand out when they have enough on attempting to adapt to all facets of the game itself such as faster speed, physicality etc. Another tick in the box for young players aspiaring to be good players in the future. If all goes well the club should be in a stronger playing position in the future with young players better equipped to add strength in depth to the first team squad. John Wells as previously stated that the club need to develop from within. In a salary capped sport it is undoubtedly the way to go with the dispensations available regarding home grown players.

Their squad is significantly weaker than last year when they wouldn't have threatened a top 5 place even without the points deduction. From their opening day squad in 2019 they have lost Gelling, Ince, Inu, Hood, Tangata, Hansen, Cahill, Albert, Johnstone, Walker, Roby and one or two others. They have made a few useful signings such as Tomkins, Smith and Grady but they have no depth whatsoever especially in their pack, unless they can find a DR arrangement.

You cant make somebody who has a court date in April (i think it is) the main stay of your starting 17. Who knows whats going to happen to him in the next few months.

Will his mind be on the job 100% ?

Feki and Olpherts will start thats pretty much nailed on by the looks

Fair enough. I kind of get the impression some Widnes fans think Sheens is going to work miracles given his pedigree but for me, although they have a good spine on paper, they lack a bit of quality elsewhere as well as depth.

Kind of depends what success looks like, if they get off to a good start and set up to be hard to beat, then not having to look over their shoulders for the second half of the season would be considered successful.

That's kind of Daryl's quandary - when he arrived success looked like being a play-off side. Now, the dial has moved up!

I listened to Powell after the game when I was at the press conference post match and he basically said that Olpherts and feki are 2 and 5 and Eden and Clare are 3rd and 4th in line and Lewis Carr is 5th choice
