FB - Rankin.
RW - Feki
RC - Shenton/Mata’utia.
LC - Blair
LW - Eden.
SO - Trueman
SH - Richardson.
P - Watts.
H - McShane
P - Smith.
SR - McMeeken.
SR - Sene-Lafeo
LF - Griffin.

S1 - Millington
S2 - Cook
S3 - Milner
S4 - Massey.
Having said that, you could easily replace Cook with Moors (if fit) and Foster can play in place of Milner or Massey (I like Milner in the bench for his ability to play 9 if needs be).

As it stands and presuming Moors/Foster won't be fit for the start of the season:

1. Rankin
2. Feki
3. Blair
4. Shenton
5. Eden
6. Trueman
7. Richardson
8. Watts
9. McShane
10. Smith
11. McMeeken
12. Holmes
13. Milner

14. Cook
15. Millington
16. Sene-Lefao
17. Mata'utia (his versatility could be useful since he can play FB, C, HB)

Squad/Injured: Griffin, Massey, Foster, Moors, Hepi, Turner, Clare, Olpherts, Ellis, O'Neill, Peachey, Storey, Carr + anyone else promoted

I've put Mata'utia on as I think he could be a good option for injuries in the backs and since there's only 8 subs now anyway, it's not likely you'll use all 4 as we have shown. However, I do think he may be one we could possibly let go to free up a quota spot if we can with Griffin or Massey coming on to the bench instead.

When you look at it it's the best since 2017 . Need Ellis to step up cos he his the only credible experienced half, back up. Should be able to open up a few defences with richardsons chip kicks and edens pace.

I know moors won’t be for at beginning of the season but if all fit this is how I’d go. Bring all the bench on at once after 20 mins.

Would be my bet to start the season (Matuiti if Blair isn't ready)

Forwards are hard to predict and places will be up for grabs pre season. Smith could be in for any number of players.

Moors and Foster could also come into contention at some point if/when they recover.

Don't mind the squad to be honest, for me we are:

Top class full back
Big, direct hard running prop
Reasonable luck injury wise (strengh and conditioning needs to be on the button pre season)

Away from competing with the top 3.

I'd anticipate us battling for 4th/5th with Hull, Leeds and maybe Catalan based on confirmed squads so far.

Based on what we know now and importantly how we ended last year: Think the backs pick themselves - Rankin - Feki - Blair - Shenton - Eden
Halves easy - Truman and Richardson

Agree with the forwards conundrum - I'd start Watts, Millington, Milner, Griffin, Holmes and Massey, in any configuration these days. McShane, I would use as a change at hooker and the halves bench option to begin with, he was flat end of last year.

But in reality it depends, halves and hookers get a relationship with forwards, depends who is naturally getting to the left post (our primary set-up) and making life easy. That's hard on Meeks and Smith, but the bench is where you make your case and in training.

If Millington does go again(assuming he would have let us know by now if not.) , I would use him differently and rest him before he is ready, so he makes more impact 2nd half. Milner starting for me would be to make every single tackle, jump out, do everything and when he blows up, then make a change for Macca. But equally, any penalty would get the hook. That has to change.

Easy from a chair, why aren't I coaching in Superleague!!!!!

Well we haven’t won anything that most on here want to count since 1994 so that can’t be a benchmark for the quality of the team.

your words illustrate how successful Sky have been at reinventing the sport to their own gain when you elevate the Regal Trophy above the League Championship.

Not so sure it looks like a squad that will challenge for trophies but it's certainly one that looks blessed with a little more pace and inventiveness than this years and there looks to be strength in depth in the pack which is always a positive given our recent injury history and it gives me grounds to be cautiously optimistic for the coming season. The odds would suggest we'll be in the mix for the top five albeit a way behind Saints and Wigan who on our book can't be split at 3/1 with perennial under achievers Warrington at 9/2 and the Pacific Islanders formerly known as Hull at 8/1, after that it's Cas,Leeds and Catalans expected to be in the mix for the last play off spot. Obviously Salford have shown this season you can be competitive with a squad that's not brimming with big names so you wouldn't say it was cut and dried by any means but hard to see anyone outside the top seven in the betting being in the play offs. The most interesting point for me in the discussions amongst the odds compilers is that most saw the Richardson/Gale swap being far more beneficial for Cas than Leeds.

Salford's squad shouldn't of been challenging for a trophy this year, but they did.

Our 2017 team on paper was one of the best in the league, yet Leeds pipped up. You need an incredible amount of good luck as well as a good team to win trophies.
