I hope people can see the bigger picture in all this. We have essentially traded in a 31 year old player, for a significant fee, whilst signing a much younger half back, who has 10 years left in the game, for half the price. That is really smart business in any terms, not just for Cas.
Surely how good business it is will only be determined in time
How gale goes at leeds and how Danny goes at Cas
If he stays fit I think he will go really well at Leeds.theyve missed a leader, someone to guide them around park.as much as it pains me he could make difference for them next year and get them in the 5

Earlier in the season? How early in the season?? Not that it matters what’s said in the statement but it makes the club look a bit silly. He’s been on tv saying he’s staying for the last month...
mmmm so for weeks/months both Gale, DP and Cas have been saying he is contracted to us for 2020 but all along he asked for a move months ago which was obviously agreed.

Anyway thanks for 2017 and good luck.

Its anybodies guess after 2 bad knee injuries and nearly 2yrs out how he will play, time will tell i guess.

As I mentioned on another thread, he was pushing to go early on this year, even when we stood by him through the injury and rehab, his mind was elsewhere.
The club’s Director of Rugby Jon Wells said: “Luke came to see us earlier in the year and expressed a desire to pursue other opportunities away from Castleford Tigers. Whilst Luke has been an integral part of our on-field progress over the last few seasons, the club’s position – as is the case with all players – is that we would not want to stand in the way of anyone who saw his future in another club’s colours.
I'm happy with Cas offloading him, we don't need players who aren't 100% committed.

If he stays fit he'll go great. But let's not forget we made the playoffs for the last 2 years without him.

yes i take this point as well sad that i am to see gale go for the fact i think gale and trueman would have been a great combination if Danny had been at the club last season we would have finished clear second despite all the injuries we had

However, ultimately I think it’s a good deal for us and for Luke. He’s coming to the end of his career, barely played in 2018 and didn’t play at all in 2019. There are bound to be doubts over his long-term fitness and a recurrence of either his serious knee injury or his Achilles rupture would more or less end his career.
I think the gamble here is on Leeds’ part.
I think you will find Leeds sought Castlefords permission to talk to him, which was granted.

Leeds will still struggle even with gale his day has been and gone. One hard tackle he'll be out another year. Just like half of our squad. Time to rebuild now for 2020. New blood in and get rid of the dead wood too many players just getting a pay packet and not contributing. Sick to death of it.

Maybe, it just doesn’t read like that. The Cas statement says “Luke came to see us earlier in the year and expressed a desire to pursue other opportunities away from Castleford Tigers”. That strongly suggests that Leeds approached him rather than the club.
However it’s transpired though, I think it’s one of those deals that suits everyone.

good luck to Luke, on his day a great player, nearly two years out of the game will he be as good ?? ,the jury's out on that one, if the Richardson deal goes through of the players available we could have done no better

Which could also mean that the club agreed and his agent then starting asking other clubs if they were interested.

I don't mind Gale wanting to leave at all. He has a family to support so needs the money.

We always knew Gale wouldn't play this year so when Leeds offered the rumoured 150k... Why didn't we say yes but you take him off our books now....

Would have give us 150k to bring in a player for the play off push. I know Leeds probably wouldn't have wanted this but if they were desperate to have him I'm sure they would have agreed.

Gale had 1 year left on his contract. Possibly 2 if we took up the extra year. Which at this stage he could have left on a free.

This is the best deal we could have made. Richardson may not be at Gales level yet but at 23 he excites me.

They are saying announcements at midday. Be interesting what he says. I’ve slagged off his agent before but I’m impressed if he’s got us 170k for Gale.

170k will be a great deal for someone left with 1 year on his contract. Will applause this.... Not sure it's our money to spend though and can see us giving a large amount back to the Fulton's.

We need to pump the money back into the squad. Luke was our biggest name player and many who are on the fence about a season ticket will now wait to see who we bring in. Will Richardson sell ST’s I’m not so sure. We need an X factor player

I would suggest this figure has been plucked from the air.

I don't see the spare money left over after the Richardson transfer going into squad strengthening.

It should...but it won't.
