Milners try

Post by andymc133 » 19 Sep 2019, 20:42

If they were looking at milners try as a possible penalty try if he didn't ground it then surely it should have been an 8 point try if he did ground it he was still fouled so should have had a second kick at goal

Thought you only got an 8 point try if a foul was commited after the act of scoring?

In the act of scoring but think it has to be an attack on the player (swinging arm or kick) not just a tackle without ball

No. An additional penalty is awarded when a foul is committed in the act of scoring. The obstruction occurred before Milner had touched the ball down so had he not grounded the ball correctly he would probably still been given a penalty try but not the additional penalty to make it an 8 point try.

Has to be in the act of scoring. As Milner didn’t have the ball at the point of the infringement, it can’t be in the act of scoring.

Off the cuff, I can’t think of a situation when a penalty try would become an eight point try.

Same thoughts went through my mind. If not an 8 pointer. I’d have sin-binned a professional foul
That being said, there is a W in the results column, so I’ll go with the omens..... last away win in the play offs........ 1999 I believe. On to next week.

We got an 8-pointer at Hull KR, where James Clare was taken out as he tried to catch a high bomb; can't remember if he managed to ground the ball though

Clare got the ball down and was smashed around the head as he went over. He wasn’t challenged as he caught the bomb.
I’m not entirely sure of the rules, but 8 pointers seem to be given for foul play, whereas obstruction seems to be more a technical offence.

8 pointers are given when the is serious foul play in the act of scoring.

Penalty tries are given for foul play leading up to and also in the act of scoring.

There is a difference between an 8 point try and a penalty try. Milners would of been eligible for a penalty try but not an 8 pointer.

Yeah for me Hastings try could have been an 8 pointer for the flop. But Millers a penalty try if he didn’t score.

No he's a Wigan player. Standard Wigan operating procedure in the tackle.
