Depends on the options. If someone better is available, we take them.smarty_tiger wrote:The big question. Do we keep Rankin or do we look for a new fullback??
But he’s the best full-back in th current squad. So unless we sign someone better from elsewhere, he gets the job.
Re: Rankin or new Fullback?
Nobody else available so we try keep Rankin. Him working with Gale and Trueman will be awesome.
He's the type of attacking full back we need

Re: Rankin or new Fullback?
Hopefully we can do better, although Rankin as looked better since his move to the back.
Re: Rankin or new Fullback?
Keep Rankin for me. Looks like he could always make a break, links up well, got a quick pass in him. Also scored some good trys from kicks giving us another option on the 5th.
He's made some good one on one stops too when opposition has made a break

Re: Rankin or new Fullback?
Not sure there is a better available option at the minute so he may as well be given the gig. Also have to factor in that we don’t want Wardle back.
Re: Rankin or new Fullback?
Has to be someone outstanding to take that spot from Rankin. Been one of our best players since moving to fullback. Quality again tonight.

Niall Evalds? Not OOC but playing for a club haemorrhaging money on a weekly basis.

Re: Rankin or new Fullback?
The one thing this team lacks in abundance is pace. Rankin has done ok, but hes not had much to compare against. Matautia was good under high ball, some decent one on one tackles but not alot else. Rankin plays more to the style cas like to play. I would take evalds over him in a heartbeat but evalds is not the link player we like to play, hes more of a finisher that hets on the end of moves. Plus Rankin takes a quota space so depends on whos available but im leaning more towards sending him back but i think the deal to keep him is done for next year

I'd be happy with Rankin now as full back next year especially if gale stays

Re: Rankin or new Fullback?
Agree with all this. He is playing well. Injects some pace and threat but he is not the linking fb that Dorn or Hardaker were. He is a decent broken field runner and has shown he is fairly safe too. But still in the back of my mind I'd like to think a better quota filler would be available. Maybe it's just wishful thinking. It just feels like our quota usage is far from optimised with state of the present squad.SWISS TONY!! wrote:The one thing this team lacks in abundance is pace. Re: Rankin or new Fullback?
If you forget his first half to the season, where he looked like a lost child, in fact up until the hudds away match where he scored 2 tries, he was pretty poor.
But he looks like the right player now in his best position. A strong full off season will get him up to speed.
I guess we'll know when hudds future is resolved.

Re: Rankin or new Fullback?
I'm starting to like Rankin and it's good to see a player who isn't ours embracing the club and enjoying his rugby. We definitely got the better end of the Wardle/Rankin swap deal, Wardle's not played for months. Whether we keep Rankin or not, I can't see how Wardle can ever play for us again.
Re: Rankin or new Fullback?
spot on you can see how much he loves it at cas hes always claping the fans and geeing them up that dosnt go unnoticed on the terraces
hes also made big improvement under DP not the first to fall into that bracket either it as to be said

He seems to be enjoying his rugby a lot now. Definitely hoping the swap deal will be done. Unless Hudds go down and we could get him for free then sell Wardle. Winner winner

Re: Rankin or new Fullback?
Has played some of his best rugby for us in recent weeks
Brings it out of defence and makes good yards.
Challenges well for high balls.
He has been our best fullback and is growing in confidence.
Let's hope that he keeps turning out these performances.
He certainly seems to be enjoying his rugby and is becoming more enthusiastic.
Keep it up lad.
