This club is about keeping players happy to get the best out of them, chances are Holmes could of missed the England opportunity had operation and still not been selected for 1st 4 games.

Wonder what we can moan about next.
It is what it is nobody things more of representing your country than me I think we shoot ourselves in the foot too often as been said if he played for Wigan and a few other clubs he would have gone straight to have the surgery done

“Oliver Holmes has been nursing a shoulder injury for quite some time, which people haven’t realised,” said Crowther. “He came back from the tour with England Knights and we got him scanned and realised his shoulder was a little bit worse than we thought and he needed surgery on it. So, Oliver is going to be missing for three to four months but we feel like as a club that this is the right time to do it and get him back for maybe a month into the season, ready for a very strong finish from Oliver.”

Going by this the seriousness of the problem was identified till after he returned from international duty.

You just have to laugh sometimes at the desicions we come up with
If you watch the interview with Crowther this is not what happened. He had a niggle he has been carrying and upon returning from international duty a scan showed he needed an op so he’s had it now rather than taking it into next year.

Oli himself explained it well on the 6till8 debate the other day. He says he was having a bit of trouble with his rotary cuff, he was taking injections, but he was starting to feel some pain and though they were wearing off. He went for the scan and it turns out, he’s done more damage than he thought. Apparently, the muscles around the joint become loose and never really heal, an operation sorts this out. It’s unfortunate, but you can’t directly blame it on him going to play for England in PNG. It’s just one of those things.

Just goes to show, they get injected to play through the pain for the club (and country in the case) to then only realise the damage they have done after the painkillers wear off. Neither club nor player at fault, it’s the game we love, it’s brutal!

Reminds me of a story Mal Reilly told about Andrew Johns in the Grand Final for Newcastle.
Johns was struggling with cracked ribs and wanted to come off. Mal told the Doctor to get onto him and give him a pain-killing injection because no way was he allowing him to come off. Inadvertently the Doctor in giving pain relief for his ribs, punctured his lung. Mal was livid when he had to come off, but still told Johns the only way we are going to win is with you on the field. The rest is history as Johns made a break when every one expecting a drop, and sent one of his mates in for the winning score. Heroic guy who gave all for his mates.

I only saw this recently on YouTube. I nearly fainted.
To finish last in the Tour de France, first you must finish.

Same as this years nrl grand final cronk played with a broken shoulder blade, that which you would incur in a car crash, for a full 80 mins plus the previous game.

Unbelievable from any player to do that
