Welcome to the Jungle Danny!
Take a lot more than Richardson to take us back to the standard we achieved in 2017. not only have we lost our man of steel in Gale but runner up also in Hardaker, a running standoff in Roberts and a quality centre in Webster, plus our top forwards back then are now in the twilight of their playing days.
I'd settle for us playing a bit of entertaining rugby again and looking at how other squads are shaping up a mid table finish.
We haven't had Gale for the last two years, and when Cas rebuffed Leeds approach, he was the one to ask to leave, and not Cas cashing in. He has been sat in the sidelines Injured, Collecting his cash, only for his best friend, Agent and havid Leeds fan to unsettle him and tease him over to the Leeds Club. Yes he was the man of steel in 2017, but he has hardly kicked a ball since that time. A big risk for Leeds who seem to be going down the Coocash root to buy a win.

I wish Gale all the best in his new quest, but we all know to are ex players cost, the grass is not always greener at the big name clubs, and Luke, and Leeds are 50/50 at best to keep fit. for the majority of the season, I wish him luck, but I'm happy with his much younger replacement

When you compare what we’ll have next year compared to 2017 Richardson for Gale is maybe the only position I’m happy with. All the optimism is ill-founded in my opinion.

Just looking at some key players it’s an overall big negative for me.

Fullback - in Hardaker we had the best full back in the competition playing at the top of his game replaced by an Aussie utility back

Centres - the excellent Webster replaced by Blair... enough said, and Shenton a declining injury prone crab. Can’t get excited about Matautia another ordinary utility back and just another waste of a quota spot

Moors and Millington, again unstoppable in ‘17 now resembling two shambling punch drunk boxers who have gone on too long, that’s if the former ever manages to lace up his boots again.

Milner and McShane were different players 2 years ago they’ve gone into reverse ever since.

Hopefully Richardson stays fit and we don’t ever have to suffer the sight of Ellis in a Cas shirt again.

added to this recruiting Championship standard players like Hepi and Olpherts it screams mid table for me.

Wouldn't disagree entirely although;

Wingers are better than 2017.

Watts is as good as either Moors or Millington were in 2017.

Mcshane and Milner may find form. It isn't like they are past it.

We had players like Igbingdon and Egodu in the squad 2017 too (we just never had to use them).

Trueman potentially better then Roberts was next year.

For me the biggest obstacles
In getting back to something like 2017 are;

Fullback, Hardaker was a mile better then current options and is the biggest weaknesses comparable to 2017.

Injuries, we had an extremely fortunate season 're injuries and have had terrible luck since (strengh and conditioning may be a factor)

Other teams. Next years Saints, Wigan, and Warrington are far stronger then any teams we faced 2017.

Got to applaud Orr, Powell and Wells for that bit of business,

What part did Orr play then?

As a general rule, you don’t catch the teams ahead of you by signing the players that can’t get in their team
.
However, Saints have a history of letting players leave who then do very well elsewhere.
that depends notts, was he left out because fages was better than him (i don't think so) or were there other reasons?

I just think Alf we were 80 minutes from semi with a attack that had no clue how to break teams down, I know other teams may improve next year but we should at least hold our own with better options in backs...but we will see

Gale knew which pass to throw when we got near the line. Think last season we didn't have that experience which really showed. Reckon Richardson will make a big difference, old head on young shoulders. Plus Trueman working the other side

Maybe, and he wouldn’t be the first player to do well after leaving Saints.

Anyone watch the Knights game?? How did Richardson get on?

I've seen Minikin got MOM and a hat trick playing on the right wing.

He was never a centre!!!

I went to the game today and thought Richardson was strong in the first half but fell away a bit in the second. Tbf the whole team went down a notch when Sam Powell was off. His goal kicking was pretty superb. Mostly from the sidelines.

He looked very good in the first half and had a hand in the first four tries with quick accurate passing. Kicked the first four all from the touch line as well. Minikin took his hat trick well and I think got man of the match. smithies should have been sent off second half for a late and high shot on the kicker, Sam Powell went well and also did the Steel Band which made a refreshing change at Headingley. All this and home 10 minutes after the Final whistle, back in Tiger Towers in Tamla Moortown.

Agree.

Since saints have been the best team for the last 2 years, Richardson will be bringing new moves with him.

Agree with this, truey can really open that side up.

Would also return balance back to the side by having a right footed kicker on the left and a left footed kicker on the right.

Richardson has tended to be used on the right by Saints, and it’s where he looks better from the games I have seen.
I’d be going with Richardson, McMeekan, Shenton/Mata’utia and Feki on the right, with Trueman, Sene-Lafeo, Blair and Eden on the left.

Feki looks to play primarily left.

Bit of a quandry really as most teams attack more to the left, so you want a strong right edge defence.

I'd say our strongest defensive edge would be

Feki
Blair
Mcmeeken/Griffin
Trueman

Our strongest attacking edge option imo is

Feki
Shenton
Mcmeeken/Lafao
Richardson

Also could be argued that some players seem to favour or look better at one side:

Feki (L)
Eden (L)
Mcmeeken (R)
Griffin (R)
Trueman (R)
Richardson (R?)

All things considered I could see:

R - Feki, Blair, Mcmeeken, Trueman
L - Eden, Shenton, Lafao, Richardson
