Capper, rather than try to trash Boris and his Bumbling demeanour and unkempt look and diss him on his mistakes, you need to understand why the General Public have taken to him and not, as you allude to, the masses being conned by him as that really makes the majority of the General Public in your eyes looking to be absolute idiots to have supported him and that makes you in the small minority of general opinion !!

The main reason of his popularity is that people see him as not being too serious and portrays much related human attitudes within most people's "take on life" than rather seeing Old Jezza preaching a red gospel with creepy intent and, as another comparison, to Theresa May preaching like a School HeadMistress !! For all his frailties, people see a lot in him that they see in themselves and that is what and why he is popular be it swinging on a wire over the Thames or being of serious intent on Government business and making the odd blunder along the way - Common sense people know that - it's called being Human !! He also has some very astute people within his Cabinet to advise and guide him with the likes of Gove and Reece Mogg along with a few others to keep him level headed and where Government Policy is thrashed out !

And that is why (along with the promise of levelling up for the North and the trust they have placed in him after many years of Labour Ruled areas doing diddly squat) the Red Wall has finally collapsed !! Labour has had their chance under Blair and Brown Governments to have made a difference for the North and didn't so Labour has finally reaped what they sowed !!

It's pointless you bleating that Tories have stolen Labour Policies - You need to answer the question as to why Labour, when they had the chance when in power, didn't act !!!

The FreePorts planned for the North and the move of departments out of London to the North is going to be testament to the Tories acting on their promises to enrich the North with Jobs and Prosperity especially when the Trade Agreements around the world kick in and which is why the future, according to many a pundit just now, are predicting a major UK growth !!

Get on Board the Tory StarShip and stop the bleating Capper !! If you can't do that, I will gratefully lend you my Handerkerchief for your Sniffles !!

The proof of the Pudding will be in the next 3/4 years and it ain't going to be easy with the huge Pandemic Debt to service anyway so it will be very interesting to see if the UK can ride the tide !!

Your last paragraph is the interesting one and time will tell. By the way, Freeports are national and a few hundred civil service posts won't transform any area.

There are many areas in the North that need help but are not getting it because they remain Labour. That's not levelling up and why I refer to him conning the public. He hasn't delivered yet.

As for his demeaner, I agree, he comes across as your mate, I just don't want my mates running the country, God forbid. I want someone who is there to serve and protect me. Look after my services and invest in ALL areas, not just the ones that voted for me. Treat our hero's in the NHS with respect and pay them what they are owed, not kick them whilst they are down. In fact I want the NHS to be fully prepared for every eventuality and not out on a limb when the next crisis comes along.

You have said before that the pandemic will need paying for and there's no doubt the Tories will stop investment, cut funding and leave the poorest in society out on their own - again.

As for previous Labour governments, much of the investment in our own area was brought about by our Labour government obtaining EU funding to make the investments required after Thatcher threw us all to the wolves by closing our industries with no support to follow. Millions cast aside for the sake of revenge. At least Brexit gives us the opportunity to spend the money directly from home.

There were many area under the Blair government that were vastly improved but they were of course public services, many of which have been thrown out by the True Blues.

I'm sure the top deck of Tory Starship is wonderful, it's just that I know the lower decks will be left to drown when it sinks.

And for the record, just because I disagree with you and our glorious Coco le Chamise, it doesn't mean I'm bleating or crying into anything. I remain strong and determined to put the country right for everyone and not just my mates.

Capper, you are totally and utterly wrong to say industry was cast aside for the sake of revenge - the economics speak for themselves when a ton of coal from Oz was coming in at £5 a ton when we were producing a ton of coal at £25 a ton. The Coal Industry was considerably over staffed as my brother would testify that night shifts had half the workers snoring their heads off down the mine while the other half worked and then swopped over the following week !! Unfortunately industry and jobs have to go when like Korea start building ships at a fraction of the cost and the weaving industry headed the same way just as a couple of many examples where we just could not compete when demands for £300 a week and going on strike for this was always going to be unsustainable.

The other thing you need to know is that wealth always trickles down with the people that have the money to invest - it cannot trickle up when the lower paid have diddly squat to invest ! People that have made it like Dyson and Wetherspoon who made their fortune invest to expand and create more jobs - it's a fact of democracy or would you rather be a pawn in an autocratic state being bullied into work submission like China !! Everyone in a democracy has the opportunity to excel if they apply themselves or accept the work that is provided which, by the way, is like being a lottery winner anyway compared to some other countries !! We are fortunate to live in what is considered to be a wealthy country !

The only gripe I have ever had is the North South divide where more was put into the South and yes it was more Tory administered I would agree ! Now this levelling up is hopefully going to address that and where us Northern Folk will finally be able to become on a similar level to our Southern Brethren and provide a lift for everyone here in the North !!

I never said the industries themselves were worth keeping, it's the communities that were cast aside for revenge, not the industries. The Tories did NOTHING to support our local community, and many other industrial heartlands, and it was all because of bitterness towards the workers that merely tried to fight for their livelihoods.

This is why I will never trust the Tories.

And, by the way, you've just said you'd be happy to pay more for quality. British coal was and remains the best in the world but hey ho.

The question was for a little bit more for quality, not 500% more !!!!!

And, coal being an energy for other industry neither would they pay 500% more putting their products sky high also !!

If it burns more efficiently than imported coal, then the comparisons as to how much more it's worth has to be under consideration but I can assure you being 500% more was a bridge too far for most industries and that is exactly why the coal industry was confined to history !!

Most Miners went onto other jobs and also the government did set up free retraining schemes at the time as my brother in law went through a free lorry driving course and still remains a lorry driver to this day, so it is totally wrong to say the government totally threw them under a bus !!

CasRus The money tricks down from the rich lol . Its not reach the north yet that I can tell . Its estimated the richest 2% increased there wealth by 35% in the last year probably enough to ease the pain of the recession if it was taxed at a fair rate. PS . When you talk about Dyson hoovers success and the money tricking down I doubt it seeing as they are manufactured in Singapore and Malaysia and have been for nearly 20 years !
Ps I do agree sadly that the tory party are going to be in for a long time.. For me the Red wall as you call it fell when Blair was put in charge , he went to the right just to get into power , which worked but he didn't implement socialist ideas because he isn't one. And there lays the problem Labour now has soft Tory's in its ranks who stabbed Corbyn in the back and would rather lose the election than than he be in charge and probably lose there job. People like Evette who fitted very well with Blair !! .

If the wonderful support mechanisms truly existed, why have so many former mining towns gone to rack and ruin when there was little prospect of quality employment, town centres collapsing long before the rise of online shopping, small enterprises struggling and people having to move away to find work?

Some of these areas have now recovered, partly because of their Labour Councils obtaining EU funding along the likes of Enterprise Zones but we were thrown under the bus in the immediate aftermath of the pit closures.

Investment needs to continue and the fracture Levelling Up programme isn't going far enough and misses many former industrial heartlands. The rhetoric will only go so far and be believed for so long.

I am happy to be proved wrong and you're more than welcome to list what the government is doing directly in Castleford and the Five Towns - what are we getting?

Far from criticizing Old Jezza, on this occasion, I do have to make a complimentary comment regarding his staunch backing of The Palestinian cause in the ongoing demonstrations here in the UK .

Israel in their actions have become exactly what the Nazis did to them with their apartheid practise and kicking out of Palestinians out of their own homes, taking over their lands and breaking all International Law and Geneva Conventions.

Surely you would think they would not dish out the same as they suffered and where the world allowed them back in to form the State of Israel after such atrocities they suffered in WW2 !!

Such a Ruthless, Tyrannical Ultra Orthodox regime they have become intent on ethnic cleansing a people who have a right to exist and a homeland which should have the 1967 Border adhered to in giving them the West Bank and Gaza as a homeland.

Humanity eh !! Israel makes me sick to my stomach to watch the Palestinian people trying to defend themselves with pop corn rockets from stopping the stealth takeover of their land and property and being totally surpressed against an Israeli military armed to the teeth with the very latest weaponry.

SHAME ON ISRAEL and applause for Jezza to support the Palestinian Cause !!!!

Interesting to read that CasRus.

As a pacifist, Corbyn has always pushed for dialogue in all conflicts and this has been portrayed by many as either weak, terrorist supporting or both. Peace can be achieved in two ways, mass killing or agreement. The latter requires dialogue.

As I see it, the Israelis have taken land that under international agreements that they signed, they should not have. This in itself is aggressive and if it wasn't a ruling government it would be classed as terrorism.

Both sides have a right to exist and hold land so we need co-operation, not aggression.

This is as I see it:-

The State of Israel was formed in 1947 where the USA recognised them and were riding on a lot of senti, ent after what the Nazis did to them. The British were policing the area at the time but just didn't have the collateral after ww2 to stay and, by the way, Terrorism was invented by the Jews in fighting for the land after bombing the King David Hotel killing many British Officers and also hanging 3 British soldiers in an orchard. Once the Brits left, they declared Israel and kicked out most Palestinians from their homes where they had to camp with nothing on the West Bank and Gaza.

The West Bank and Gaza is occupied by Israel from 1967 and that land should be given back to the Palestinians as at this point in time they would readily accept with East Jerusalem while West Jerusalem remains in Israel's hands. Most Countries regard the occupation as illegal however, with the Powerful Jewish Lobby in the States, trying to get them out of occupied territory while the USA backs them is difficult - It's All Wrong !!!

Every People need a Homeland and the Palestinians have been suffering in being hemmed in by Walls on the West Bank and not being treated as human beings (Gaza is more or less a big Prison Camp !) otherwise they will fight and fight on for a Homeland.

I just don't get why common sense to get Israel back to the 1967 borders is not being implemented and stop all this savagery as I'm sure the Palestinians would now recognize Israel on pre 1967 borders as it always was and accept that the full homeland where they previously were is unachievable (the canary has now flown on that !!) - Surely that is now a fair compromise but it looks like Israel are intent of taking all as demonstrated by the kicking out of Palestinians in Jerusalem !!

Israel with their Ultra Orthodox actions are no better than what the Nazis did to them and it's shameful that America still back them instead of applying common sense !!

The American lobbying and support is immense when you consider that Israel has no significant income it is amazing how they can afford such a 'defense' system. American money from the large Jewish American base (approx $4b per year) is the answer.

The history does of course go back much further and the Jews belief in the fact God was always giving them a homeland has always been there. There is no doubt that throughout history they were persecuted by the dominant Arabs of the area, the occupying Romans and so on right through to the Nazi's and others in more recent times. Like you, I do not believe this excuses their current approach to the Palestinians who were also there in pre-history.

All this because of religion!

I can only hope peace is found and both sides recognise the rights of the others.

This just about sums it up as to what I previously posted:-

How long will the world sit idly by while we in Gaza suffer like this?
Yasser Abu Jamei

I am writing this looking at my terrified six-year old son, who keeps putting his hands over his ears, trying to block out the sounds of Israel’s bombardment. I am also with my two daughters, aged 13 and 10, and my wife. Their faces show the anxiety of not knowing if – and where – we are safe.

My two older sons, 16 and 15, sit stunned and silent – and I know they are reliving the memories of the previous three offensives on Gaza Strip and the family members we lost. These are the feelings that every family in the Gaza Strip is living through.

We Palestinians have lived through decades of humiliation, injustices, and maltreatment. In 1948, we were expelled from our land: over 600 villages were fully destroyed, hundreds of thousands of us were killed or uprooted. Nearly 800,000 of us ended up living as refugees in different places around the globe.

This happened under the eyes of the international community who have promised us a sovereign state over about one fifth of our original homeland. That decision was only accepted in the 1990s by Palestinians believing in a two-state solution.

Some 26 years later, we look at the conditions in the promised state of Palestine and we see a West Bank divided and occupied by hundreds of thousands of settlers living in settlements built on the rubble of Palestinian homes. We see that the existence of the Palestinian people is a living hell.

We see the Gaza Strip under blockade for more than 14 years, leaving us deprived of basic living conditions. We’ve also suffered three large offensives in this small area which killed, destroyed and traumatised thousands of our people.

And we see east Jerusalem, with its holiest sites – for Muslims and Christians alike – under constant threat, as settlers take over Palestinian homes and neighbourhoods.

Israeli settlers recently started to attack Sheikh Jarrah, trying to seize more homes of Palestinian families. Everyone saw it. No one intervened.

On one of the holiest evenings of Ramadan, Israel decided to evict tens of thousands of worshippers who were praying at Al-Aqsa. These were mostly Palestinians. Everyone saw the brutal use of military power by Israel. Again, no one intervened.

The violent scenes in Sheikh Jarrah and the Al-Aqsa compound have lit a fire in Palestinian hearts; not only in historic Palestine, but also everywhere in the world.

While we demonstrated in Akka, Jaffa, Nazareth and the West Bank, rockets were fired from Gaza demanding an end to the atrocities in Jerusalem.

The Israeli army’s response was to attack Gaza with even more violence than in previous offensives. Bombardments hit tower blocks, apartments, governmental and police buildings – even whole streets. To date, at least 200 Palestinians have been killed, including 58 children; and 10 people in Israel, including two children. Everyone is seeing it. No one intervenes.

How long will the world sit idly by while we in Gaza suffer like this? The people of Gaza need more than just statements and resolutions, while Israel receives arms which are killing and terrorising us.

I am a father first and a psychiatrist second. My dream is for my children to live, to grow, to learn, in safety. This is the same dream as that of every one of the clients I see. There will be more of them today – and tomorrow.

It is my job to give hope. So, I will tell them what I tell my children and my wife: “Because this injustice for Palestinians has gone on for seven decades, that does not make it normal. The world is increasingly full of people who do not accept it is normal. There will be change.”

Concrete political action is needed now to end not only the current deathly bombing raids, but also this illegal occupation and siege of Gaza by Israel. The international community must now fulfil its promise of a sovereign Palestinian state. Every civilized country must recognize us.

Our living conditions under the siege are an affront to human dignity. I tell my children and my clients that we Palestinians have the right to live as any other people in the world: to live in peace, in dignity and to enjoy our rights. “It will come,” I say. And I have to believe it, after all, I’m a father – I can’t bear to see my children live like this any longer.

The following link to a Roger Waters (ex Pink Floyd) is a very gripping and very powerful take on the Israel/Palestinian issue and I highly recommend you seeing this as to what exactly is going on:-
