Just look at the candidates being touted for the new leader!

David Lammy
Clive Lewis
RLB

we are going to enjoy right wing government for a very long time
All on a par with the Tory Chairman, Cleverly, although it is interesting how you#'ve managed to ignore all those that have actually committed to standing. Anyone would think you Tories like to ignore facts!

Well that share is 2% more than the Tories got in the gneral election so I'll just dismiss their win shall I? There was a clear shift towards supporting the SNP and you lot have been telling me democracy should dictate government policy.

Cake and eat it springs to mind with you lot...

Happy New year Boys ! Have you missed me ?...……….I can hear your "what an A-hole" mutterings already....ha ha !! good to have a laugh at my expense !

Just a brief catch up.

Looks like it's Starmer's to lose on the new leader issue but just seen RLB throwing her knickers in the ring also after being seduced by the Corbynist/Union socialist left !! Would be good for the Tories if she is elected !

A lot of talk on billions being spent on northern infrastructure and especially east west rail Liverpool/Manchester/Leeds/Hull and Middlesborough/Darlington rail connections being massively improved - It can finally make our northern lives more tolerable and bring investment to the area along with more jobs and more prosperity badly needed. (I did say it was time to change the red to a blue vote and see how the rewards would finally come to our region in earlier posts !! - Shame it didn't
materialise in Cas however it just failed to topple the traitorous witchy incumbent who voted against the "heavily in favour of leave" local vote and which she fails to represent her own local people and is in fact now a blight on the area !!).

These new initiatives will take years of time to materialise with red tape and approvals before a spade goes in the ground (mentioned today) however it is in the absolute right direction

And is something Labour were committed to but I find your comment about timescales interesting as I though BJ was the man to get things done quickly? I also thought he'd promised to devolve quickly to help cut the red tape but hey, what's a promise or two between friends?

I do hope you're not preparing us for the sorry, the Northern Powerhouse money has run out so we're prioritising the South again, excuse.

FlatCapper, you know as well as I do that major project approvals are complex especially if you are looking to push through new track etc and disrupting the environment - take a look at HS2 and the complexity of navigating around land laws and by laws ! BJ will try to get timescales down but that can be in the lap of the gods when rules of law apply - it's not as if we are a country like China who just go ahead and lay track and build quickly along and also with the cheapness of labour there.

HS2 looks like coming in 3-5 times of initial budget and I think (only my opinion but could be wrong) this will be shelved in favour of developing the Northern infrastructure initially but who knows as only the powers that be will make that decision after crunching the numbers again (and probably be way out again !!).

Don't forget, Boris is the North's bezzy mate now !!!

While I wouldn’t exactly be quaking in my boots with a Starmer lead Labour Party I think he is the most credible albeit he’s another Remoaner who thinks he knows better than the majority of referendum voters. The other contenders are nothing short of an embarrassment.

I will be hoping for a RLB win

Hello Chaps,

Thought I would add a new dimension to this conversation as a think tank rather than bashing each other about on the Tory/Labour front and hopefully keep it in a positive mode and hopefully have our past combatants come back in to add their thoughts (i.e. Dogs Vinnie and WF10) - all done and dusted now so no "told you so" comments from me and hopefully we can all be civil and move on - it's good to talk !.

Did you see Andy Burnham yesterday talking on prioritizing rail/road/bus infrastructure here in the north above all else regarding HS2 ?? I totally agree with his stand which he said that the north has always been last in the queue for infrastructure/transport investment compared to the south and the north now needs to be given high priority - let's hope BJ gets this moving asap as it starting to look very obvious to everyone that the Northern Powerhouse has the potential to change the fortunes of this country for the better.

Did you see the Trump speech at Davos this morning ? Now that to me was a game changer as to what the USA have achieved under his administration in concentrating on their workers needs and now seeing huge investment, millions of jobs created and with agreed trade agreements with China etc. He talked about planting 1 trillion trees and also about clean coal carbon capture tech also. He also mentioned a great trade deal with the UK on the horizon - it's definitely worth a listen and watch as it had a number of good results highlighted where he has scored really well and this may lift spirits in the face of the current depression we have endured over these past years. I noted the £ and $ instantly jumped up stronger after his speech.

Hopefully with all so far mentioned, they can agree in Davos to arrest the global environment concerns and deploy clean tech throughout the world - i.e. they should be trying to get China to conform to clean coal tech within each of their power stations for a start.

I think the HS2a and b legs should be scrapped and the vast sum of money be invested in improving local transport systems in the north and re-open some of the branch lines cut under the Beeching review, it is shocking for instance that a town like Wetherby with many daily commuters does not have a rail link.

As for Davos I thought Trump's hair was particularly superb in resisting the down draft of the helicopter that delivered him and the weird teenage prophet of doom was her usual irritating self. That’s about it really.

Of Course !

Nigel Farage is set to sign off with the EU later today with his usual flourish and upsetting the EU troops as normal and will be a good watch !

Long way to go though and expect a lot of turbulence for the next 2 years at the very least in negotiation as the EU will make it very difficult !

More pressing just now are the Chinese CoronaVirus, Climate Change, HS2 / Northern rail and also the 5G security issue !

BJ has a very difficult path to negotiate with a growing number of external worries as to what's best and what needs solving.

It's going to be one hell of a helter skelter ride and some of it in the dark, so hang on to your hat and have a clean pair of underpants ready as there's some very scary stuff going on just now !

Hi Guys,

Just thought I would send you the following statement which in my past discussions, I did say that the EU was a sinking "Titanic" and was best for us to "Brexit" leave now and get the cream of world trade before any other EU country starts trying once it completely sinks !

Watch this space later this year after this following statement:-

"The UK’s withdrawal from the European Union has left a huge €75bn (£62bn) hole in the bloc’s budget for the next seven years, 2021 to 2027. “And now we are fighting like ferrets in a sack,” said one EU diplomat with a sigh"

Every man and his dog knew the EU would need to re-think it's budgets in the wake of our withdrawl so your prophecy was in line with evryone else's thinking.

The question reminas about whether an unstable Eu is good for Britain and indeed, will require the EU to negotiate hefty tarrifs for us to help with thier funding issues.

We may well have still cut our nose off to spite our face but we'll see.

I see you are still "glass half empty" Flatcapper !!

They need us as much as we need them so a fair compromise is what I will predict and when we start bringing in trade deals from other countries, let's see who was right and who was wrong as to whether it was a good move to Brexit ! Time will tell !

I tend to think that BJ knows more about what this country will be doing in the future than what he is letting on when he has now committed to HS2 and spending big style ! He must have the confidence to proceed in what may be coming our way !

The only thing I see of scuppering is climate change and virus spread which could cost an absolute fortune in lost revenue and there's not a great deal that anyone can much do about that in the hole the whole world is in !!

I don't think there's any doubt that a close working relationship with the EU is better for both sides.

As for BJ's spending plans, his own chancellor quit last week because Cummings was removing his ability to control the budget. My view is they are merely there to paper over the cracks in an attempt to say look, I'm doing more than I need to.

I also see climate change as a huge economic opportunity and who knows, free trade with the world will allow us to become the world leader on the new technology as we will be required to adapt and move away from the reliance on fossil fuels. Don't forget, we no loger extract fossil fules to any degree and rely on overseas company's for our supply. I look forward to this changing.

If all things went well on controlling Climate Change there would be a huge opportunity for the UK, but, to be brutally honest, we may just be all dead by then !!

I'm a "Glass Half Empty" on this as I think we have already passed the tipping point and when you see icebergs cracking off Antarctica the size of a large city, Countries up in flames with hot weather, no stopping Brazil being tone deaf to nature and chopping down the Amazon, Extreme Flooding at home and to top it all A "Biblical Sized" Plague of Locusts currently eating up Kenyan food crops and a virus ready to go Global, then you can see that nature is starting to tell us something by banging loudly on the door of extinction ! - nature is interconnected on so many levels and nature's extreme occurrences are starting to show up in so many ways that it is very hard to not be very worried !!

The biggest worry is the oceans warming and methane in suspension on the seabed that may start to bubble up and kill all sea life and then enter the earth's atmosphere and I don't need to further elaborate on the implications on this ! Methane has already started to bubble up in northern Russian Tundra bog regions apparently !

Be Afraid sorry to say ! Shame for the younger generation but they are going to be the inheritors of a total natural disaster that is on the horizon at some point and I just hope mankind can come up with a massive scientific fix !

I don't disagree, even if your beloved BJ and Trump do, but I do still believe there is hope. What is clear is that the current situation is the culmination of decades of pollution so the reedy won't happen overnight but now is the last chance to act.

I can't help but believe this will provide a huge opportunity and rather than HS2 and the like, I'd prefer it if my taxes went on environmentally friendly initiatives that didn't rip out some of our protected sites. I only wish I was young enough to grasp this opportunity.

Changing the subject I was delighted with PP’s launching of our new points based immigration system, long overdue!
