Re: Bateman

Not spliting hairs but the 500 K was Australian Dollars so about £370,000 per annum. In the present financial climate and all the uncertainties, l think he will be hard pressed to get that money from a Super League club. I know Saints have the money from Thompson and some have people prepared to bac...

Re: Season restart

Thanks OCL.
So that answers the quarantine issue.
As an aside.
The reason some grounds are not used is the clubs who play there share the facilities and are the lesser partner and may be rendered as not being cost effective as rent would have to be paid further reducing the money available to clubs.

Re: Season restart

On the quarantine issue. By August the Air Bridges which l believe includes France should be in place. Does this therefore negate the need for quarantine. The cost of the travelling for teams would be a bigger issue but the attendances could subsidise those cost. I don't believe it's feasible but as...

Re: Season restart

I believe Stade Brutus may be able to have crowds of up to 5000. It is probably too controversial in terms of managing the pandemic, although the last few days suggest that argument has been list on some (many) Obviously Catalan could not play there as it would not be neutral. The revenues could be ...

Re: An interesting read-Michael Carter

I read the article and it crysalises the immediate and gives an insight into the long term impact of Covid 19. It also personalises it when he talks of cooperation and resistance to the changes to staff conditions and that both responses will be remembered for the future. You also have the Rhinos sa...

Re: McMeekan

I would be disappointed if he were to leave. In his pomp he is a real handful. Admittedly he has not recaptured his 2017 form but this could be said of quite a few. The extra cash and the South of France what's not to like. Good Luck to the lad if he goes but as other people have pointed out we are ...

Re: Wakefield trinity

The question in my mind would be why did tge council lend a company with few if any asset twice the amount of money that the land was worth. That is to say if Trinty went bust the only asset they would have would cover only half of the debt. Especially if the loan was at a low interest rate. The two...

Re: Sky Money 2021

What ever. Scenario you come up with the clubs are facing a massive financial challenge as are many other businesses. Clubs playing to empty stadiums no match day income. Reduced merchandising, less Sky money and prior to this many clubs ran at a loss. The money for overseas players and marquee cont...

Re: Sky Money 2021

Any such insurance policy would need to be very explicit to cover a pandemic, even then some companies who have such policies are experiencing difficulties as the government has said that games cannot be played. Regardless the hit to clubs finances will be massive. Even when games resume with crowds...

Re: Sky Money 2021

Sky money is income. Loans have to be repaid. I haven't seen the terms and conditions but it's not free money. The loan also specified it was not for salaries. I tealise the monies can be accounted to show whatever. I know if l had a business facing an uncertain future as there are no guarantees the...

Sky Money 2021

The effects of Covid 19 and Sky reputedly reducing the amounts clubs will receive in 2021 by £280,000 will no doubt impact on retention and recruitment. It could also mean those players who think they have what it takes to play in the NRL an increased incentive to try their luck. It will no doubt im...

Finishing the season with Saints before returning to Aus to persue a career in the media apparently.
Seems an unusual route.

Re: Rankin

Good luck to the lad. He played with far more enthusiasm than Wardle did. A player who we paid for and wanted. Rankin certainly had his critics. Yet he filled in where required and always gave 100 %. To land an immediate contract is testimony to him. Plenty of years ahead of him. Back to his home co...
