Amazing is the only word that begins to explain a terrific, superb and dominant victory against our local rivals who never anticipated a shock loss at the hands of a clinical, proud and thoroughly desrving Cas side. If ever there was such a thing as a league upset, then tonight was the night the Jungle witnessed just that.
Forget all the talk of being World champions, forget the suggestion that this Cas team had no ability and even forget the criticism levelled towards specific personnel at the club; this game highlighted the sheer power held by Cas fans when they get behind the team in the true passionate fashion as was evident in the ground tonight. Castleford Tigers RLFC united to deliver possibly THE best performance ever witnessed in the past 4 years.
Every single individual playing for the club showed nothing but the highest level of determination, passion and skill against a Rhino's side who are well and truly on a high after being crowned as the best side in the world just last week. Well, that title means absolutely nothing tonight; because a lowly Cas side who were never expected to pull off such a shock battered Leeds throughout, and completely deserved one of the biggest morale boosting victories in the history of this club.
Brent Sherwin was simply outstanding - leading the side all over the field and Michael Wainwright had a superb game. Michael Korkidas was the star performer in the forwards and supported abley by young Joe Westerman and Awen Guttenbeil. In fact it really is pointless selecting 'key men' in a dominant and victories Cas team; every single player demonstrated the lethal ability that is held when a side unite together, work as one unit, and show utter pride in the club badge.
The atmosphere was electric; the boys played to the highest standard and the potential effect that this win could have on our season will be massive. If we can beat the World Club Champions one week after being crowned victorious then who knows where our limits lie. Being honest, this could change our campaign completely.
Whilst we can be nothing but ecstatic with this result over an arrogant and occasionally disrespectful Leeds club, the need for reflection has come. This is a result that could completely MAKE our season; we have to build from this point and show the rest of Superleague what we are made of. We are more established than Hull KR, we have a better fan base than most and we have just shown the capabilities of our side. Let's keep this momentum rolling and hit this campaign hard.
We've shown tonight that we can deliver; now is the time to keep that going.
