Match Report
Castleford had a great night at home, putting ten trys over against Warrington. Although the kicking wasn't up to scratch, Michael Wainwright get his hat-trick, both Richard Owen and Stuart Donlan saw the try line twice and extras from Luke Dorn, Ned Catic and Kirk Dixon all add up to make a match that can only be described as a through win over Warrington. Click "Continue Reading" to read the full Match Report...Three minutes in and Guttenbiel charges over the line, but he was ruled as offside after the match officials refer to the big screen. A minute later, and Luke Dorn intercepts a Warrington pass and runs the entire length of the field and places the ball behind the line, and adds the vital first four onto the scoreboard. Kirk Dixon can't add the two. 4-0 to the Tigers.
Lee Briers recieves the ball after what is close to a knock-on and charges under the posts and adds four for the Wolves, Hicks adds the easy two and Warrington go ahead at 4-6.
Castleford's second try came in the form of Michael Wainwright after a great set-up from Sheton, again, Dixon can't get it between the sticks leaving Cas' at 8-6 just 14 minutes into the game.
Cas' luck continued when Stuart Donlan, set-up by first try-scorer, Luke Dorn, popped it just to the side of the posts, Kirk managed to pop the extra two on to this one, third time lucky, taking the Tigers lead to 14-6, just inside the first 20.
After what seemed like an age, the video ref showed Warrington capitalise on a Cas' error and a lucky bounce on 21 minutes in the form of Chris Riley, and the other Chris, Hicks, add's the extras bringing the score to 14-12 in Cas' favor.
Great play and quick hands from Dorn and Donlan push Micheal Wainwright for his second of the game, this one right on the side line, and leaves too much work for Dixon to convert making the score 18-12 to Cas'.
Donlan added his second, and four more onto the total just 8 minutes before the interval, the video ref was refered to once again, and Ian Smith (Match Official) takes an age over the decision but gives it in the end, Kirk Dixon, who has forgotton his golden boots this evening, can't add the conversion to this one either. Seconds before the hooter sounded and Michael Wainwright was just feet away from getting his hat-trick, but the Tiger's head down the tunnel at half time 22-12 up.
Stuart Donlan emerged from the tunnel and looked to be injured, but it soon becomes apparent that he is fine and ends up in touch just 30 seconds (two touches) into the second half.
Matthew Blythe was the first over the try line in the second 20, and a straight forward conversion from Hicks adds the other two, 22-18 to the Tigers advantage 47 minutes into the game.
Last tackle and 12 minutes into the second half, and youngster, Richard Owen, see's the line, goes over and gets Cas' sixth try of the game but it's right on the touchline, a change of kicker by Terry Matterson and Craig Huby doesn't do any better as the flags stay down, but the extra points mean that Cas are ahead, 26-18.
Warrington's Lee Briers see's red and gets yellow on 53 minutes and is sent to cool down by Ian Smith and just second's later and Warrington knock on, Cas' capitalise by going ahead 30-18, the man over the line is Richy Owen once again, but again Huby can't get between the sticks from the sideline kick.
New boy, Ned Catic is the next to take advantage of Briers being sent off, and the Wolves being down to 12 men, adding four more beautiful points to the Tigers count. Huby gets the second Cas' conversion of the night, a huge cheer from the Tigers fans as the flags go up. The score line reads heavily into Cas' favor, 36-18
Chris Riley is the next to get cheers from the Warrington crowd on 62 minutes as he runs one over the line and gets the Wolves fourth try of the game, Hicks, kicks and the flags go up, Cas' are still in charge at 36-24.
Just 8 minutes from the end and after a hard fought few minutes, Kirk Dixon gets his first points of the evening and add's another four to the Tigers score card as he runs behind the line, and runs it toward the sticks from the touchline. Craig Huby doesn't see the flags this time and the Cas' miss out on yet another two points.
Ben Westwood gets an early shower and is sent to the bin just three minutes from the end and once again Cas' take advantage with Michael Wainwight getting his hat-trick and the Tiger's tenth try of the game. Kicking isn't Cas' strong point tonight as another Huby attempt goes begging.
None the less, a great game from the Tigers see's them leave the field 44-24 on top, Dorn gets man of the match, 11 try's tonight, and it was all on Sky, a great night to be a Cas' fan.
