Match Report
Cas now look certain to collect the wooden spoon after conceding a half-century of points for the fifth time this season. Substitute Jordan Tansey bagged his hat-trick as Leeds secured their much-desired top-two finish in this seasons engage Super League with a 10-try drilling of bottom club Castleford in their last clash at Headingley of this years regular season. They did so in front of a packet Headingley.
Cas' Scott Moore was on the pitch all of 3 minutes before an appaling decision from the touch judge saw him get sent off after which Cas' conceded two tries in his absence, Leeds' Ashley Gibson and Rob Burrow darted over the line 6 minutes apart and an inch perfect conversion from Kevin Sinfield saw Leeds take an early lead.
Officials spot an error by Leeds (for the first time in the game) on 15 minutes, and within minutes, youngster, Richard Owen runs Cas' first of two in from distance, and, as usual, Kirk Dixon makes it 6 for the Tigers.
Twenty-five minutes see's Leeds first 'proper' try in the form of Lee Smith but Sinfield fails to add the two, not that this makes much different to the outcome.
Cas' manage to keep the Rhino's at bay for all of three minutes when Carl Ablett darts one over after another officiating error, but again, Sinfield fails to add the conversion.
More misery for Cas' on 31 minutes as Ali Lauitiiti crosses the line too add the final try of the first half, with Kevin Sinfield finally getting one between the sticks to make the score at half time, a dismal 24-6 in Leeds' favor.
The second half doesn't get any better, and Cas' know they are in for a tough time when substitute Jordan Tanse gets his first of three just seven minutes in and even Sinfield couldn't miss this conversion.
The Tigers manage to hold off further embarresment until the 62nd minute when Leeds capitalise in the form of Brent Webb, and Sinfield bags another conversion from in-front of the sticks.
Talk about 'too little, too late' and you will think of a 67th minute try from Cas' Luke Dorn, a great try but too late for any sort of a comeback, even when Kirk Dixon adds the two.
The final nine minutes see's three Leeds tries and three conversions. Tries come from Danny McGuire on 71minutes and Jordan Tansey completes his hat-trick in style on 74 and 80 minutes. Kevin Sinfield see's the first two between the sticks and Gareth Ellis pops the final points on the board after converting Tansey's 80 minute try.
In a game that was officiated by Leeds Rhino's fans, the lads put in a fantastic team effort and really did the fans proud. It's just a shame that the RFL allows such officials to ruin a local derby and a game that we have all come to love over time. In my opinion, T. Alibert and his team need to be investigated by the RFL and should face appropriate discipline. Following the damage done by the officials in the first 20, it was just too much of a hill for the Tigers to climb...
