Report
Terry Matterson´s Tigers side clinched their fourth win of this years Superleague season in a home match at the Jungle against Hull KR on Sunday.
Luke Dorn, Michael Shenton and Peter Lupton all popped a try in the first half and Kirk Dixon converted all three. Second half, and Cas´ didn´t manage to add any further points on the board, but Hull managed to pull back only 7 minutes in with a try from Michael Vella, the try was then converted by Paul Cooke, bringing the score to 18-6. Cas´ fears were up again when Jon Steel dived over the line on 71 minutes to add another 4 points, but too little too late and Cas´ had secured the win.
Luke Dorn was set up by a clever kick from Brent Sherwin who managed to slip the ball past two Hull players, just 9 minutes into the game. Cas´ second came after an impressive run from loose forward Lupton who managed to pass to Micheal Shenton who popped the ball right under the posts. The third was again, a Sherwin set-up which set Lupton on to grab the ball and drop it home for a further four. A very accurate Kirk Dixon managed to glide all 3 conversion attempts between the uprights to see Cas´ home.
A good spell of pressure resulted in substitute Mick Vella darting through a gap in the Tigers defence to touch down in the 47th minute, this try was then converted by Paul Cooke, the Rovers must have had one hell of a half time talk as they looked to come back onto the pitch a completly different side.
After a tackling frenzy and a lot of pressure, Cas´ managed to keep Hull in their own half until 9 minutes from the end when good judgement from the visitors saw John Steel cross the line, to add four. The conversion was missed which left Hull too much work to do with not enough time.
The win comes after a week of controversy in the Tiger´s camp, many fans were upset at last weeks result against Leeds and head coach, Terry Matterson, had been under a lot of fan pressure to get the team to perform this week. A good win from a hard working Cas´ side in a very wet Jungle.
