Tigers Promote Trio
In a bid to add numbers to their squad ahead of the 2009 season, the Tigers have promoted another three of their talented youngsters to
the full time squad with the addition of stand off/ full back Jordan
Thompson, front rower Ben Gledhill and back rower John Davies.
Jordan and John joined the Tigers from local junior clubs, Normanton and Lock Lane respectively. Ben Gledhill, who went on tour with the England Academy side earlier this year, has joined following his junior rugby with Westgate Redoubt in Wakefield and Shawcross. All three have progressed from within the Tigers Academy system.
Tigers Chief Executive, Richard Wright, told the Official Site “This trio join Nathan Massey, Joe Arundel, Jonathan Walker and Jamie Cording in winning full time contracts and with the five ‘home’ produced players who were in the squad last year (Boyle, Huby, Owen, Shenton & Westerman), the clubs 29 man squad for 2009 is over 40% Castleford produced. Some of the promoted players will be aiming to play some Super League next year and if they work hard I am sure they will get the opportunity. It is vital in future that our first team squad is underpinned by some quality juniors and we are now making real progress in this respect."

Chase-ing the Law
Newly signed player, Rangi Chase, was charged with grievous bodily harm last night after getting involved in an incident on the Gold Coast last night. The press are saying that he got into a dispute outside a local public house just after midnight and as a result a man was taken to hospital with
a suspected broken jaw.
Chase has been summoned to appear before magistrates in Southport on 23rd January which at the least will delay his arrival in England yet again. The incident may even put his contract with the club in jeopardy. Chase has already been allowed to stay in Aus' a bit longer than usual to sort his papers out, how forgiving will the club be now?

Brett Ferres Signs for Tigers
Castleford Tigers have today confirmed the signing of Brett Ferres on a three-year deal. The 22-year-old back rower is regarded as one of the best young English
forwards in Super League the club seem pleased to have brought him to
the Jungle and to his hometown team.
The club have said he will add size, mobility and skill to the current back rowers. Brett made his Super League debut in 2005 for the Bradford Bulls and after spending two years at Odsal he moved to Wakefield ahead of the 2007 season.
Tigers coach Terry Matterson said: “I am very pleased to have been able to add Brett to our squad, and when we learnt that he might be available I was keen to bring him to the club. He is a very talented player, and when you add to that the fact that he is young local boy, he is just the sort of player that we are looking to bring into the club. He also has the experience of 70 plus appearances in Super League. Brett has played for England and I feel sure that he has the talent to get back into the England squad in the future.”
Brett said: ”I’m very happy to be joining Cas, it’s my home town team
and the club I watched as a youngster. This is a good opportunity for
me, a new start and I’m really looking forward to the new season.
“I
know quite a few of the players and played alongside Craig Huby and
Michael Shenton as a junior. The squad that Terry has put together has
a lot of new faces and some really good players who came through last
year, and I feel that we can have a very good season.”
