Dave Woods Snaps up Hlad
Brendan Hlad follows a string of Tiger's and joins Dave Wood's squad at Gateshead Thunder. The former Tiger's coach has snapped up Brendan after he expressed interest in being close to family in Newcastle.
Since joining the club, Hlad has had limited oportunities for senior football and see's this move in his best interest. Gateshead have been winning matchs left, right and centre in this seasons NL2 competition with promotion and champion status looking probable.
Brendans contract was until the end of this season, but in the interest of Hlad and to give some new signings an oportunity to shine, Terry Matterson and the club have decided to hand the contract on to Gateshead. We wish Brendan all the best at Gateshead and we are sure Dave Woods will continue in helping him develop.

Sunday's 19 Named
Terry Matterson has named his 19-man squad for Sunday's clash with local rivals Wakefield Wildcats. Kirk Dixon, Ned Catic and Scott Moore all return from a virus to Terry Matterson's Castleford Tigers squad after missing last weekend's defeat to Huddersfield Giants.
Dorn, Donlan, Shenton, Dixon, Wainwright, Sherwin, Henderson, Korkidas, Guttenbeil, Westerman, Higgins, Huby, Lupton, Boyle, Moore, Owen, McGoldrick, Catic, Sargent make up Terry's side.
After a 6 loss string under their belt, Wakefield have vowed to put an end to it and force a win against Castleford, Wakie head coach, John Kear, is expected to ring the changes for his side’s game.
Matterson had this to say, "Last weekend against the Giants was a real disappointment. After having
to re-shuffle things and with a few guys not 100% because of the virus
that hit the camp, I was pleased with the effort we put in and at 60
minutes we were right in the game. Unfortunately those two yellow cards
were to prove extremely costly, especially with one costing us a
pivotal player at such a crucial time.
“Thankfully the guys who
were ill have shaken off the virus so I have a few more options this
weekend and there will likely be some changes, especially as there were
no new injuries.
“One of the plus points from last week was the form
of Mitchell Sargent who ideally might have benefited from another week
to recover from his illness. Circumstances meant that we had to draft
him in and I felt that he showed what a good signing he can be for the
club.
“This week pits us against Wakefield once again and fans won’t
need reminding that we are due for a win against our local rivals. But
they were very disappointed last week after a heavy home defeat at the
hands of St Helens and even though Saints are capable of scoring points
against anyone in the competition, they will be seeing this as an
opportunity to get back on track. We have got to look to stop that
happening and I am hoping that the guys will be fired up to end a long
run of defeats at the hands of the Wildcats. The defeat last week was a
severe blow to our hopes of climbing off the foot of the table, but we
still have a chance and I’m looking for us to fight until the very end."
