Tigers sign Aussie duo

After weeks of rumours Castigers.com/Pontefract & Castleford Express has announced the signing of 21 year old Brendan Hlad from the Penrith Panthers. Hlad hold a British passport and is able to play front or back row.

The second signing to be announced subject to obtaining a work permit is former Wakefield Wildcats player Ned Catic. After playing in France Catic will join up with the Tigers and hopes to make his debut against his former club in Cardiff.

Hlad and Catic had the following to say:

Brendon said: “This is a big opportunity for me and a great chance to help the Tigers.” Asked what he can bring to the team, Brendon said: “I have a very good work rate, I’m very committed and can give plenty of game time. I played prop for much of last season and regularly stayed on for the full eighty.”

Ned said: “I’m pleased to be joining the Tigers and I’m looking forward to a new challenge. I’m ready to go after just finishing a spell playing in France and possibly a debut against the Wildcats! I know that there are only four months of the season left but I am looking forward to making an impact.”

Down to the last 15

After watching his team collapse in the second half against the Quins, Matterson now has to deal with the injury crisis. Guttenbeil, Dorn and Leafa are definitely missing while Huby, Clayton, Westerman, Owen and McGoldrick are all struggling to be fit.

On another note Matterson is hopeful that 1 or 2 new players will be announced this week in time for the Catalans game, taken from the League Weekly: "Castleford are confident a new signing could finally arrive this week, despite passport problems delaying the as yet unnamed backrower. Tigers coach Terry Matterson expects to be able to unviel the new man this week, who has been brought in from an NRL side until the end of the season."
