Seems like a life-line for them but they will have to hope the revamped belle-vue will bring more support in or they could be in trouble
So what's happened is Wakefield tried to get that loan themselves and were rightly rejected because of the well known history they have of not paying debts and the idiot council have come along and gone "oh we can do that for you but promise you'll pay us back this time!"

What odds would you guys have on them not paying back the council for a 2nd time?

Yeah I doubt wakey would have being able to get the kind of loan they needed or at least not without massive interest on it elections coming up maybe that a factor who knows

This.

I'm not really one for politics but I'm going to be writing a letter to my local councillor over this. Why the hell are they throwing my tax money at a bloody professional sports team?

If it was Cas getting it I think everyone's reaction would be slightly different, however, I would expect Wakefield and Fev fans to be equally annoyed if it was Cas getting it.

It should be open to all or open to none. Simple as. After all the accusations of favouritism from over the t'common towards Peter Box and Cas, I don't see them saying it now.

However, there's only one club in the district that has gained from WMDC. Who got their planning design fees paid for due to WMDC being a guarantor, and when the Trust couldn't pay? (£150k) WMDC. Who's now giving a loan to Wakefield? WMDC.

Not to mention their involvement 20 or so years ago when Wakey had financial issues.

Where was our offer of planning fees paid for? Oh, we didn't get one - instead we had to sell Joe Westerman for £115k. Where's our loan? Oh wait, we don't get one.

The inconsistency is a joke.

Phil Townsend (SWAG) (a.k.a TRB on RLFans.com) eludes to an additional £2 million payout from the council towards the re-development of Belle Vue. He also states that the £3.15 million loan is for the buy-back of the stadium only. Manni Hussain (the current owner) of M88 group as made a royal killing out of this !

Wakefield arnt suddenly winners there's a lot of ins and outs to there situation the winners are the 88m group or whatever there called who will be making fortunes out of this
And Carter is also a winner in my book for getting the club in the position there in at this moment in time you could have had long odds in my book he would have achieved what he has when he took over

Don't get wound up too quickly, wait and see what the details are. I can't imagine for a minute that WMDC can just take out a loan for a private sporting club and give £3.1M to said club, the loan must have to be ratified somewhere along the line.

The question we should be asking is this an interest free loan anyone lending money would expect interest on the loan ..is this the case.
As a tax payer I like others are fuming that on one hand our local council (sic) has loaned money to a professional club to purchase THEIR ground (again) yet the same council has closed swimming pools in Cas, K'ingley and Pontefract in order to save money on maintenance on said pools (lol) yet now are doling out much needed funds to Wakey.
Cas have had FA from our council for much needed upgrade of WR ...we once asked for £35,000 Loan yet were refused only later for the council to allow Wakey to purchase BV from them for nominal sum of £1.00.
As had been mentioned ...WMDC a precedence had been set with diabolical loan.

The £1 gag again......Absolute rubbish, that was a nominal deposit. I can't remember the exact figures but WMDC bought BV for £165K, a few years later we paid a £1 deposit then paid £365K back in I believe four payments. The figures may be slightly skewed but that's the jist of it, WMDC doubled their outlay, so let's put the £1 gag to bed.
As an aside whilst under the tenure of WMDC the floodlights were declared to be safe to use, within three months of the ground being transferred back into Trinity ownership the floodlights were condemned and had to be replaced. HTH

I’m pretty sure Michael Carter mentioned this scenario as an alternative months ago during an interview. From what I remember they will only repay the interest on the loan and NOT the actual capital. The capital would be pursued from Yorkcourt via the council. I’m guessing as they will not have rent to pay they will be more than able to cover the interest but the issue will be getting the capital repaid should Yorkcourt refuse (if that is indeed the scenario).

I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see what the finer details are.

It’s very likely you will not hear anything ....... I’m sure the decision has been made . It may just take a few days/weeks for the info to drip feed through .
