Super 8's

Post by Nobody » 12 Jun 2018, 15:16

Looks like there to be scrapped from 2019 with plan to keep promotion and relegation in place.

Understandable from an investment point of view to scrap the 8s, although I have quite enjoyed seeing the top four of the championship playing in the middle 8s

So what's the vision for the future just going back to a system that failed in the past. I just wish we would stick at something for a period of time rather than all the changing every few years.

Think the plan his bottom club relegated from super league - top team in championship promoted

So back to how it was before we had the few years of franchising followed by a few years of the super 8s and every minute matters.
If it didn't work back then why will it work now?

Does the 1 up 1 down happen by a million pound game or just bottom of sl swapped out with top of champ ?

Think it just a straight swap ...also imagine it would be a 14 team super league next season

Million pound game played between the top two in the Championship.
Bottom SL team relegated automatically.

I dislike the million pound game. The top team might finish the season way ahead of the team in second and therefore have more chance of survival in SL. I don’t see why the top team can’t just be promoted, as they are more likely to do well in SL the following year.

It’s also odd that we will have a different approach to promotion than we have to relegation. Relegation will be decided by league position alone. Promotion will be a one-off game. Seems like we can’t decide what kind of format we should use.

We’ve gone back to a system where the promoted club can be far weaker than the relegated club. At least with the Super 8s, any club wanting promotion had to be better than the club that got relegated over seven games. All that’s going to happen is a return of yo-yo clubs who swap places every few seasons, which isn’t good for anyone.

I’d like to know what our club’s view is on this. It seems the decision has been made by Wigan, Warrington and St Helens alongside Robert Elstone and without any other clubs having any kind of involvement. It’s not a decision that has been made by the RFL through the proper procedures.

I could be wrong, but I didn’t think there was a vote. It’s a decision made by SL not the RFL.
I could very well be wrong though.

Exactly the same system as we had in 2006. Great. How many clubs have pushed themselves to the brink of going bust aiming for the promised land of super league or just trying to stay in it.

Will we never learn that we need stability and solid foundations that can build and develop the game rather than just jumping from one idea to the next.

Also are we going back to playing dome teams three times as we used to or are we cutting the season down to just home and away fixtures.

I suspect it will be 14 teams in SL (26 games) plus Magic Weekend.

With them wanting to do more internationals it wouldn't be a shock to see them have a 22+ magic game season

Million Pound Game for Championship it seems. So top 2 will either fight it out or they'll have the play-off system back again.

If it goes to 14 teams we basically end up in a scenario where there are no full time team in the division below who are actually capable of competing in SL. But yet we promote one simply because we have to. Leaving a competitive team from SL being relegated.

Should just do what the Nrl did. Ring fence 14 team capable of competing and add to it if a club add something to the existing 14.
