Understanding our recruitment

Post by SuffolkTiger » 07 Jan 2018, 05:39

Not necessarily new news but a really well balanced piece on how our squad has been assembled for 2018:

a good read & i find this quote interesting as it suggests we arent having to pay him?
People have understandably questioned how Hardaker’s wage will be used after his drugs ban.

Might just be putting 2 and 2 together or insinuating that we could take the other option and send ZH on his way. It's clear that without ZH we haven't got a full back. We can't operate like that for 2 years in my opinion.

well by moving benny to full back we are robbing peter to pay paul, but i dont see any other option with our situation money wise as we can only spend what we have once & im guessing zak took that.

Even if we pay him, his salary would only count towards the salary cap if he actually plays. If he is banned for two years, anything we pay him won’t count on the cap during that time.
However, if he is banned these are the things he is not permitted to do:

“During a period of Ineligibility individuals shall not be permitted to participate in any capacity in a Competition, Event or other activity (other than authorised anti-doping education or rehabilitation programmes) organised, convened or authorised by:
• the RFL or any body that is a member of, or affiliated to, or licensed by the RFL;
• any Signatory;
• any club or other body that is a member of, or affiliated to, or licensed by, a Signatory or a
Signatory’s member organisation;
• any professional league or any international or national-level Event organisation; or
• any elite or national-level sporting activity funded by a governmental agency.”

So he would be unable to work for the club in any capacity, or any other organisation that is affiliated to the club (ie club sponsors).

Are you sure about the not working for a sponsor bit ?

The above seems to say so. Not permitted to participate in any capacity for any other body that is affiliated to a Signatory. Cas are a signatory to the RFL and therefore WADA Regulations and sponsors are affiliated to the club. Working for a club sponsor would also probably be considered as being organised, convened or authorised by the club, which is also not permitted.

In all honesty Zac may be one of the best players in Super League however l fail to see what he could commercially contribute to any business.
Without Rugby his earning potential is not great .
If as Digger Dave the ban may be four years then l think the club would be within their rights to terminate his contract.
In which case l say thank you Zac for helping us to LLS but how you let yourself,your colleagues down as well as the club and it's supporters.
What a waste.

I believe we have to withhold ZH's wages until the case is settled with UKAD. If he receives a ban, that will then free up his wages for us to sign another player (or 2). If he is acquitted, he will either then be disciplined and moved on or placed back into the squad.

Either way, we have a chunk of money that we cannot spend towards the salary cap until the situation is resolved.

Think we have enough to start the season well even without Hardaker. When he does get his ban then we have money available to strengthen should we need to presuming players are available.

Not a disasterous situation really.
