Rangi Chase

Post by nottinghamtiger » 11 May 2019, 09:20

Last time the question was asked I wasn’t in favour of giving him another go.
But our deficiencies in attack are clear to see. The bloke has something we are missing - creativity and threat. You don’t lose those attributes.

No. The last thing we need are further disruptive influences.

The bloke hasn’t played Super League rugby for nigh on two and half years and we don’t even know what level of fitness he’s in.

The solution and answer is out there but it isn’t this.

Can’t see rangi getting back to that kind of fitness.
Out of the game 2 years now around 33.
What we need is that type of flair player.
Is there one out there.
Rangi is not the answer.

Yep. At the start of the year, I wouldn’t have taken Zak back. I’d still be hesitant.
Likewise, at the start of the year I wouldn’t have taken Rangi back either.
But things change, and (unlike some) I’m always open to the possibility I was wrong, or that circumstances now are different to what they were at the start of the year.
From what I’ve seen dished up on the field this season, I’ve gone from thinking having Rangi back would be a bad idea to thinking how we are missing any kind of creative threat.
Would he still be SL standard? I don’t know. But there are some things that you just don’t lose - creativity, deception, unpredictability, vision and guile. If he can regain physical fitness, Rangi has these attributes in spades. And they are just what we are missing.

I’d have him, he’d be cheap and can put someone through a gap

He was clearly past it when he had him last time. Out of shape. Lost his cutting edge. And now after so long out of the top level I imagine he would be a total waste of time.

If anyone is interested rangi as done a 40 min interview with Phil Bennett, the guy who interviewed dean Sampson.
It’s worth a listen.
Also he make his debut 14th July.
It’s at Fev if anyone is interested.
