2 new sides

Post by stuey » 13 Apr 2019, 14:25

Proposed rugby league teams in the Canadian city of Ottawa and New York in the United States have received support from "a comfortable majority" of Championship and League One sides.

I am all for expansion, but not 1000`s of miles away. How many supporters form Toronto, Ottowa & New York are going to travel to watch any of the current local teams. How many current sides supporters are going to watch their teams play in New York or Canada.

Still the Rl bosses will be happy as they want a Sl of Catalans, Toulouse, Toronto, Ottowa, New York, Newcastle, Bristol, London, Warrington, Wigan, Saints & Leeds. Crowds will b 90% down on now, but they will be happy!!!

Clubs shouldn’t rely on away fans. Build home support and market to your own fans. Get them through the turnstiles.

Toronto have boosted crowds in the Championship and League 1. Many clubs have actually seen record crowds. Put on something entertaining, people will come.

Rugby league has been advertised in the New York times and fans still find something to moan about lol

Are these expansion teams a precursor to a North American League.?
If so all well and good. As long term Super League teams l would have grave reservations.
As on a selfish note l would only see Cas 6 or 7 times a year.
It's OK saying you should not rely on away supporters they are a welcome source of income in a sport with few pay days.
The travel and accommodation costs will be prohibitive.
Nice fact finding all expenses paid research visits by the Red Hall elite(l use the word in the loosest way possible). Will be re required to establish feasibility.
