Agreed but most of them wanted to play the Aussie way too. Game based on defence and completion rate. Boring as lol.

Sadly with the exception of Cas and Melbourne there now is only one accepted way.

I thought George Williams would have got a go seeing we are an hooker down, good hands good defender and kicker, another one who is a bit unlucky is Percival this lad as had some very impressive matches when playing against us, but the England coach as put a second row forward in his position , a strange one is that

Bennett has already stated he prefers Bateman's defensive qualities and when you consider how easily Gale was swept aside last Saturday that may be the reason he thinks additional defence is required down that side.

Gale was swept aside because he was one on one with one of the strongest players in the Tongan team where was Bateman as he was ment to support him . If you watch that tackle again watch Bateman running back . Coudnt catch a cold.

I'd much rather have Percival in there myself but don't forget Gale was also swept aside by the Tongan full back after gale chased up his kick.

I just get the impression that's the way Bennett thinks and why he mystifies many of us.

What I don't understand is it's not like Percival can't tackle ... On a separate note Duggan and Holmes partnership will truely test England on the flanks

He's good at mystifying people which is why he is so respected as a coach

England can't win due to our inferior kicking game, Gale and Brown just can't control a game in the same way as the Oz halves.
It as been the same for decades and in the first game of the world cup after England got off to a good start the Aussies just piled on the pressure with a superb acurate kick and chase game.

Well we will know one way or the other soon enough. Personally I think we are much more cohesive as a team now in game one including the fullback, hooker and halves

Bookie's computer says ..... No.

Aussies 1/8
England 6/1
Draw 33/1

Keep your money in your pocket - or spend it on the Mrs for Christmas...

Mixed feelings on Sol; he can provide a link from pack to halves but can also give penalties away for fun. Although, the biggest benefit of him playing is the fact Bennett can't make a mess of selecting someone else - I mean Lomax?

Surely Taylor or Mike Mc would've provided better back up for the pack horses?

I would have started SOL at 6, Percival in the centre and Bateman in the 2nd 2 had it not been for this injury.
Now I guess it is as you were - Roby to try and get 80 minutes.
Widdop out back, Brown and Gale 1/2s.

Not sure Mike Mc pulled any trees up, but also wouldn't have picked that old bloke either.

Loma can cover roby and also full back to allow widdop to go to loose forward because big Sam will never last 80mins.

What a damp squib this tournament has been, the organisers are hoping for 40,000 attendance in a 52,000 capacity stadium. This in the so called hotbed of rugby league. Total waste of time Australia by plenty.

The passion from the Tongans was absolutely amazing and the atmosphere they generated made it the best sporting experience of my life and everyone else I spoke to said the same.
This World Cup hasn't been a damp squib and if used correctly the legacy could see the sport really kick on, particularly if the interest in Canada and USA can be nurtured
It really depends on whether there is enough will, brains and resources at an international level to make it happen

Think we would do better if Shenton or Percival was on left centre

I’ve been hearing that for the last 20 years or so but when you boil it down it’s still an M62 / East Coast of Australia game
