Looks like players won’t be paid this month.
If there’s no investment secured for the 25th Feb they could fall into administration.

Re: Widnes
How can that be when they've had plenty of warning re their funding level for this season, and the chance to release and replace players in order to stay within their budget?
If they were 20 games into the season, and crowds were 1500 under projection then maybe they'd have an excuse,.
But to be short of cash after 1 home game just screams mismanagement.

Re: Widnes
Think one of key members of the consortium that was keeping them going as pulled out at short notice ...looks bleak for them now

Bit mercenary but I'd be monitoring the situation in case gelling is made available

Re: Widnes
Only possible if we let one of our non-fed players go. At the moment we have Millington, Moors, JSL, Clark, Roberts, Rankin and Mata’utia.tigerfeat wrote:Bit mercenary but I'd be monitoring the situation in case gelling is made available
I can’t see us letting any of those go at the moment.

Re: Widnes
It depends if the RFL or SL give dispensation for the overseas players similar to when Celtic Crusaders went bust. If memory serves me right that's how Widnes were able to get Lloyd White and Hanbury, they were exempt for the first year.
Re: Widnes
One player id look at would be ashall-bott got great potential

Every month that goes by it gets cheaper to pay Roberts' contract up and deregister him...nottinghamtiger wrote:Only possible if we let one of our non-fed players go. Re: Widnes
Normally if a club goes belly up, clubs can get a dispensation on the overseas rule.

It gets worse for Widnes.

Re: Widnes
What a shocking state of affairs for Widnes club going into admin with 800 grand worth of debt while James rule paid himself over a million quid in the time he was in charge

Re: Widnes
Gone into Administration and if no investors (a term which has an alternative meaning in Rugby League) go into liquidation.
A sorry state for one of the oldest clubs in the game.
Do those in charge of governance and compliance have an idea of what it costs to operate a club.
Are those responsible for compliance unable to recognise financial frailties before they become terminal.
How sustainable is the game.
The salary cap viewed by some from as an encumbrance preventing us from attracting the best or loosing home grown talent.
Imagine the debts clubs would incur if no curbs were in place.
This another opportunity for a thorough review of how the game is funded and how finances are managed.

Re: Widnes
The Sky must have already have been spent.
VAT and other taxes.
There are also wages, running costs as with any other business.
In the off season there maybe little or no income coming in but money will still be going out.
If their revenue consist of Sky payments, match day receipts, sponsorship, golden goal.
It is soon spent.
The persuit of success or survival can easily outstrip income with so few pay days.
