Re: Challenge Cup draw
Exciting draw and going to be a tough draw whoever we get. Hope there’s some shocks.
Providing they get through I would like Toronto at home or London away.

Any particular reason for picking out two loss-making ties ?

I would like London away as well. I remember that was my first ever Cas game. I think it was also in the cup at an athletics stadium. Coventry Bears away would be good, but it's never going to happen. I still haven't seen them play, even though they have been going for 20 years now

Toronto are very good at marketing and it would get lots of interest. Neutrals may come down too.Spanishtiger wrote:Any particular reason for picking out two loss-making ties ?
As for London, I was thinking of a nice away day out (not home). Trip to the big smoke, boost the coffers of a smaller club. The Cas link with Chandog and Danny Ward down there.

Toronto's paying supporters could all come in the same taxi.
Fev at home, bumper crowd and payback for Boxing Day.

Aren't the gates shared equally between 3, them being both teams and the RFL?yorkie1bn wrote:who ever we draw it needs to be at home boost our coppers not some one else's.

Re: Challenge Cup draw
after expenses have been deducted I think the rfl take a percentage before the gate is split. think refreshment sales, etc are kept by the home club.

But then they grew York's attendance from 700 to over 2000 by working together. And similar has happened at other clubs.Spanishtiger wrote:"Toronto are very good at marketing and it would get lots of interest."

They have a massive pull not only in the UK but internationally. Castleford will be mentioned in the Canadian press - we may even get some new fans given how we play the game.
I also want to give us a competitive game but also a decent route through into the Quarter Finals. A good cup run is always key.

Re: Challenge Cup draw
And Bradford increased it to 4,000 so perhaps we should play them.
It's easy to throw out a random number to prove your point.
Maybe York's average crowd was 700 because they played in a league with North Wales, South Wales, Coventry, Newcastle, Skolars and Gloucester. Therefore the rugby public of York WILL turn out when the opposition has some decent players to watch.
Here at Cas we played Leeds, Hull, Saints and Wakey twice at home in the league last season and averaged 9,000+.
If we were to draw Toronto, I'd have any bet you like that there wouldn't be 9,000 there to watch.
Fev at home, not televised and 8 or 9k there. A decent pay day for both clubs plus a great chance to get into the quarters.

Re: Challenge Cup draw
I don’t think we have ever got above 5k for Fev. And it’s Cup so less fans would be willing to pay for it.

Re: Challenge Cup draw
Is the draw seeded for the next round when the top eight clubs join in ?

Maybe because we hardly play them.
If Fev were in SL there would be well over 5k.
We normally play them in friendlies around Christmas time.
A lot of people just don’t do Xmas friendlies.
Cup matches are a funny thing.
Fans now a days just aren’t taking to them, maybe because they have to pay, ie season ticket holders.
It’s not like 10/15 years ago when games were a tenner to get in.
A lot of families are priced out of going, which is a same really.
