Casforum server fund - We need your help!

Post by Matt » 19 Mar 2012, 16:14

Casforum server fund

Since 2006 we've grown from a small forum to a website with over 30,000 unique visitors a month. To meet the demand we've moved hosts or increased our current hosting plan around 6 times now however we've now hit the limit once again and need to move onto a more powerful server.

To help subsidise the cost of running the forum adverts are shown to guests (and the one permanent ad from RS Trucks) however even with the ads the shortfall is still substantial and it's impossible for me to cover the costs of the new server alone.

Moving to the new server will cost us £792.00 (inc VAT and migration) to help cover the cost we're asking our lovely members to help us by donating. Any amount small or large will be grateful and in return we'll give you something back in return (not sure exactly what yet but it will be some ultra special forum perks!)

For any tech people interested in the server specs:

Intel Dual Core Xeon X3065
4 GB DDR3 RAM
250 GB SATA HDD
In addtion we'll have a remote backup VPS which will store the daily database backups and other important information.

Any shortfall will be covered by me however this will take a few months to generate and until then the forum will see increased resource limit hit messages and downtime.

Moving to the new server will allow the forum to expand even further and more revenue streams will open as a result (we'll be able to resell some of the space back to members or through other means)

For 7 years me, the administration team and moderators have spent countless hours to keep the forum running however the personal cost has reached a limit and I can't continue to self fund the new server alone.

The donations will be used to primarily fund the server and work required to move the website, any left over will be used to further improve the website and infrastructure.

To donate you can choose a preferred method below:

1. By Paypal - matt@casforum.co.uk
2. By cheque - PM me for my address
3. By Bank Transfer - Again PM for bank details

Thanks in advance,

Matt / Casforum admin team

Just a quick update, I've added in what I can afford and we're only £72 off being able to complete the move.

I'm looking at getting the server setup in the next week or so, if anyone would be able to help with the final push it would be much appreciated.
