Apparently We and a few other clubs are in negotiations with Toronto to sign him. Toronto not interested in Player swap but negotiating is still ongoing. Toronto looking to free cap space up and the player wants to leave.

Sir, your rumours currently have a 0% success rate. Therefore, I’ll take this with a pinch of salt at the moment.

Why would we need him?

Good back up, can play in the halves or fullback, would be a nice player to have in the squad.

If the contract talks with Rankin have broken down as said then o'Brien is an option moving forward, not a quota/non fed player. Weren't we in for him before he went to Toronto to start with?

If we have the cap space, I’d take him on loan for the rest of the year, but with Toronto paying some of his wages.
Can play at full-back and in the halves, where we have no cover whatsoever.
Then we can reassess for 2021.

This. And having him there might just temper Rankins demands during the contract talks as well.

I wouldnt be that interested in Rankin if him or his agent are asking for a lot more money he's a decent player but no more than that

I agree but so far this season no one has been complaining about the full back for the first time since Grand Final week 2017

I do like O'Brien, he's certainly better than he was when he was being loaned out all them years ago, however, if Rankin doesn't stay beyond 2020, then sell Wardle to Giants and use that money and Rankins wages to fund a move for Niall Evalds, kid keeps getting better year on year.

Thought Wardle was out of contract at Cas this year as is Rankin at the Giants?
