Libel requires actual physical evidence to support your claims. I saw a pig fly, doesn’t mean it has any substance.

As FC says, be careful what you say.

the thing i cant get my head around is why we paid leeds the money for him early. i thought a price had been agreed and it was to be completed after the season long loan finished if cas still wanted him. if we wait till end of season then we dont even have to give leeds anything

I don't care what anybody says or the so called image of the club, if we've let Zak leave for nothing heads should roll.

Better not let him go for nowt. Should be easy enough to a least get most of our outlay back

Reading between the lines, I suspect that Steve Gill might personally have agreed to let him go for nothing. I HAVE NOTHING TO BASE THAT ON and I apologise to Steve if it's not the case.

However as someon wrote above, I have that dreadful feeling that we've had our pants pulled down through the glaring mistakes of our very own people. E.g.

- Wigan then sign him up, or are on verge of, after hearing that

- uproar in the board room and in fighting as to who said / agreed what

- DP kicks off too

- arguments escalate into possibly worse

- Wigan use the money that they have saved on a transfer fee to support Zak and pay his wages whilst he's out of action

We lose £150k and a Player.
Zak loses nowt and maybe even secures a wage rise
Wigan lose nowt and gain and international player free of charge and see it that he's simply just out injured and in 'rehab'

Gill is sacked off.

IF Steve Gill as let Hardaker go for free it's the poorest bit of business ever. Surely he is not that daft ?

I think people are putting 2 and 2 together and getting 22 at the moment.

Speculation doesn’t help anyone. Let’s wait until facts come out.

And when has cas ever let the fans know what's going on,personally I don't think we will get to know what has actually happened and will only have hints through rumours like this column or my mate says this or that, personally I can't help thinking all this rumour mongering is doing a lot of damage to the club.

Nice picture of zac, jy and Greg Eden on instagram.
Looks like he still associates himself with the other players.

What was the true cost, including all the add-ons of signing Zak Hardaker, £150k being the basic transfer fee? VAT alone amounts to £30k and there's probably more on top of this.
The total transfer fee will probably be nearer the £200k mark.

Didn’t know players were taxable products?

As a VAT registered business trading with another VAT registered business, yes tax is payable but is then claimed back against VAT owing to HMRC from income at the end of the business year. Unless things have changed and the VAT man wants less than he did 20 years ago, (unlikely).

So as far as I understand, yes we would pay VAT on hardaker's transfer fee (about £30k on £150,000 if that was the figure) but would be able to claim it back at the end of the tax year so no extra cost to us. Leeds would receive that £30k but have to give it to HMRC at the end of the tax year so no extra gain for them.

Another example of how all western governments use every opportunity to gain income. In this case as it's between 2 businesses the net gain all round is nothing, however if you or I were to purchase Zak Hardaker's playing contract we would be shafted for an extra 30 grand that we'd never see again.

Any transfer fee paid in the uk by any sporting club to another has to pay 20% VAT on the fee which is non refundable.
If you sign a player from a club in the EU the fee is not subject to VAT, this is why so many Premiership Football Clubs sign players from the EU and not the UK.
Recently Chelsea signed an Everton player for £15m pounds and it was claimed they had signed him below market value but it was proved after add-ons and tax they hadn't.

Football clubs have a special rate of tax they don’t pay the full amount. It has been this way since the 1970s
