Re: 2018 squad signings
I'd be very tempted to give Gareth Ellis a one-year swansong.
Even at his age, he is a class above.

Re: 2018 squad signings
I'd be disappointed with him as a signing now. 3-5 years back definitely but not now. Not for the money he'd want and the amouny of game time we'd get out of him. Surely get much more bang for our bucks looking elsewhere.nottinghamtiger wrote:I'd be very tempted to give Gareth Ellis a one-year swansong.

I suppose that would depend how much money he wanted.RonnieGibbs'forearm wrote:I'd be disappointed with him as a signing now. 3-5 years back definitely but not now. Re: 2018 squad signings
Even on the cheap I still feel he is well past his best and is such an injury roulette. World class player in his prime. Think we will be recruiting more youthful forwards who can do big minutes.nottinghamtiger wrote:I suppose that would depend how much money he wanted.RonnieGibbs'forearm wrote:I'd be disappointed with him as a signing now. 3-5 years back definitely but not now. Wouldn't sign him on principal. ..
Allus said he wanted to finish his career with us, then chased the pound with FC instead of us...
Let him finish at Bell Vue..

Re: 2018 squad signings
He didn't "chase the pound" at all, if he wanted to go anywhere for the money he could have gone back to Leeds or signed for St Helens or Catalan and got more than what Hull offered. Adam Pearson sold him on a vision (+ Gentle, who he worked with at Wests was head coach) , Cas had MIllward at the time and Ellis had zero intention of ever playing for a MIllward coached team. I'm also not 100% sure Cas ever offered him a deal on top of the fact Millward put him right off the idea anyway.Le Van wrote:Wouldn't sign him on principal.

So if you want to blame anyone for Gareth Ellis never pulling on a Cas shirt blame Stuart Raper for saying he wasn't good enough and then Jack Fulton & Richard Wright for dilly dallying around with Peter Gentle leading to MIllward becoming the coach.

If this is true then I stand corrected
Got told it was a done deal until Pearson came in with a last minute deal that he couldn't turn down.

Re: 2018 squad signings
Ellis is long passed his best. He wouldn't be in or first choice 10 forwards.
Dave taylor is a beast and has great hands. Would say yes to an affordable one year contract. Not at the expense of Walmsley or burgess.

Re: 2018 squad signings
Gareth went to Wakefield Academy in 1999 along with about 10 others from that years Yorkshire U18s squad having been told in 1998 that he was "too small" to make it, bearing in mind that he was playing as a scrum half then. Fast forward twelve month and Gareth had grown about 15 inch and moved into the back row. The rest is history.lurcher wrote:good post sheriff, seems to make sense. fumper may be able to add to this. Re: 2018 squad signings
Ellis in his hay day was something special ,with his age and the knocks he as taken he his still good when on the field but a player that plays one week and has the next three off is not what we want , sorry Gareth is not for me

Re: 2018 squad signings
The only shirt he will be playing in next year, if he plays, will most likely be Hull anyway.
Re: 2018 squad signings
Have we done any business for next year? (Don't have to name names) and if so, how many incoming

Re: 2018 squad signings

Re: 2018 squad signings
Steve Gill as said on radio today we are well down the track of signing an English forward.
Hoping to announce in 2/3 weeks.
Now I wonder who that can be.
