Re: Monday's rugby papers
Smith was a mid-season signing. We like to get replacements in mid-season if we can. If we had a fully fit pack, Maher would be out on loan again. Smith came in because we were in desperate need with Millo, Moors, Jesse all out injured earlier in the season.

From the announcement:HuddsTigers wrote:He’s only Federation trained IF he completed 3 years in the UK before the age of 21. He didn’t - he did 2 years or 2 and a half years before going back to play in Australia.nottinghamtiger wrote:It could, actually.Fumper27 wrote:Not, it doesn’t. Mitch Clark was born in Pontefract but counts on the quota.sirocco7 wrote:old cas lass wrote:Hepi is a New Zealander so that would be a quota spot taken up on a player who as only played a hand full of SL games.
Who would he be replacing, because any player taking a quota spot should be in the starting 17 regularly.
Not sure if it makes ant difference but was Hepi born in the UK?
Hepi is federation trained so he wouldn’t count on the non-fed quota.
However, he might count on the overseas quota. That depends on his citizenship status.
So unless he has an exemption of sorts because he marginally missed out, he’s non-federation trained.
“Despite being born in New Zealand, Hepi is considered to be federation trained”.

"So unless he has an exemption.." - I already acknowledged in my post that it may be the case if he has an exemption, which I'm presuming he has since he's played his professional career in the UK and France.

So Hepi replaces Clark and we may still need to replace Millo if he retires.HuddsTigers wrote:Smith was a mid-season signing. We like to get replacements in mid-season if we can. I'm guessing that you mean "the quality of players we are trying to recruit beggars belief"flow wrote:Beggers believe quality off players we are trying to recruit
If I've worked that out correctly then I think it's wise to watch them for a few games before making bold statements.

Doubts were even cast when we bought Lee Crooks. I could go on.
I trust DP to get it right.

Re: Monday's rugby papers
To be fair it was probably due to Lee's fondness of the junction and its refreshment selection that was causing the concern.SuffolkTiger wrote:I'm guessing that you mean "the quality of players we are trying to recruit beggars belief"flow wrote:Beggers believe quality off players we are trying to recruit

He might have an exemption, he might not. It doesn’t really matter. I was only clarifying the position as it was unclear prior to Cas’ announcement.HuddsTigers wrote:"So unless he has an exemption.." - I already acknowledged in my post that it may be the case if he has an exemption, which I'm presuming he has since he's played his professional career in the UK and France.

In one of his first games for us I was sat close to the touchline in the main stand. We were lined up ready to receive a kick off.
In the seconds before boot hit ball a salty old girl leant over the fence almost within touching distance of Crooksy and delivered in a dry tone " What's tha doin here when thi favourite pubs oppen cocker?"
He heard it and gave her a sideways look that was a mixture of annoyance and also a nod of acknowledgement that she had asked a decent and fair question....

I mean the quality and we only lad player's no other club are interested in . Soon as another club shows interest in a player you can forget us landing them they are off ski .SuffolkTiger wrote:I'm guessing that you mean "the quality of players we are trying to recruit beggars belief"flow wrote:Beggers believe quality off players we are trying to recruit

Re: Monday's rugby papers
I would be delirious if we signed a new conditioning coach.
Reasons are
. We look like a tired team as shown by the lack of mid field breaks amongst other indicators.
. Does this look like a team who are peaking in Oct?
. We have never had as many off the field injuries
The effort is still there but we are short on skills and grunt.

Re: Monday's rugby papers
This is a very good point. I thought Ben Cooper did a very good job when he was at the club, the squad doesn't look half as fit now. We don't meet the attacking side in defence like we used to,just hold back waiting for them to make easy yards.tigertragic wrote:I would be delirious if we signed a new conditioning coach.

We don't back up the runs of our big forwards, especially the inroads made by Watts, plus we have a flat attacking line and for the most part our players aren't receiving the ball at pace.
To me this points to poor fitness.
