Left and right edges in defence.

Post by old cas lass » 18 Apr 2019, 22:40

Why oh why do we find it difficult to compete for the high balls on the edges.
Wakefield scored a couple of tries because our defenders either cant jump or get muscles out.
Can’t wait for 6ft 4 cheyse Blair to arrive.
We certainly need someone with hight.

Same with the short kick off, lost out on that one as well.

We should persevere with the short kicks as we get more reward from those

I mean Wakefield’s high kicks to our edges, we seem to loose out 9 times out of ten.
Very frustrating.

Tbh i think clares got the height to deal with them but he got caught out of position and was running back for the ball and eden...welll lets just say he hasnt ever been the best under the high kicks.maybe its a lack of blockers aswell that shield the player going up for the ball which gives them more time,we dont seem to have that.

I think its a shame where we drag players into our in goal area and the player is still moving but the ref shouts held up as we get them close the the dead ball line.id like to see the refs let the play go on while the player is moving and therefore not held because then its a 20 meter restart to us and not a 10 meter play of the ball to the other team.we could have done this a few times tonight which makes it easier on your defence

Clare and Minikin played much better tonight. First half Minikin especially was great defensively. Both took their tries so well. They needed scoring and both were really impressive finishes.
But then it was back to same old frailitiws in second half.
Not just them either some really poor individual errors put us right on the back foot. Mcmeeken at times  #-o
First half was almost perfect but we just let them off the hook. Losing JSL and Oggy did not help but 22-0 up at home and then almost losing is so frustrating.
Anyone hear what Powell had to say?

It's full of spin these days from powell.the team capitulated again against a poor wakefield outfit. There are so many weakness in that team.

So Blair in at Wigan, who gets dropped? Clare with Minikin going to wing? Or does Clare keep his spot and pair with Blair?

The problem is there is a shortage of quality wings/centers thats out off contract atm amd we dont have any quota spots to get one from oz.personally i would have kept minikin for the wing and let clare go but im not the coach...in dp we trust...

Our edge defence is awful. Thing is it has been most of the season but it just isn’t improving. Powell & co need to sort it out asap if we want to be a contender.

Blair and minikin, you nailed it first time. Clare is fine as back up but that’s all he ever is for me.
what doesn't kill me simply makes me...stranger.

Blair is a left centre, so suspect Shenny will end up on the right. He played there at Saints so no issue and should sure up the defence at the same time.

Blair can play both left and right so i think he'll fit stright into the right and leave shenny with eden

Just listened to Powells after match words thought he summed it up perfectly
