Re: Ben Roberts
If people cannot see that Roberts was an integral part of the team in 2017 then i give up. Look at the stats.
I agree that it would of been nice if he had of played more, and Im sure Ben would say that as well, I also agree that we should not have a minutes applause for him. But to compare him to Ryan Clayton and Dwayne Barker is disrespectful, Ben probably achieved more in less appearances than two average (but hard working) players.

50 odd people being massacred not worthy of a minutes applause?alftupper wrote:...and didn’t he play second fiddle to Flynn for most of his first season? I certainly won’t be participating in any minutes applause and to be honest I’m sick of these touchy feely gestures when I turn up to watch a match.
While we’re on the subject any idea what this weeks minutes silence will be for, I heard Fred Blogs’ dog was on deaths door but thankfully it pulled through so it can’t be that
Re: Ben Roberts
Idont think anybody is questioning what Roberts had in his locker I can remember him running at full speed and at the same time putting in a kick for minikin to score in corner one of best trys I've seen in last few years
Just the ridiculous idea to give him a minutes applause

It’s been coming but a real shame. Without doubt one of the classiest players to pull on a tigers shirt for many a year.

Re: Ben Roberts
As one who has been critical of his non appearance over the last year, I have to hold my hand up and give the man a big rap for doing the honourable thing and deciding to quit.
When fit he was one of the keys to our success, sadly from our and his point of view this was few and far between games.
Remember one time he was running to the right (RE) and without slowing screwed a kick left which resulted in try, cup game at Hull (lost) but Benny was immense, and the one the most people remember the link with Gale for a brilliant of the cuff run-around.
thanks Benny all the best

Re: Ben Roberts
Wasn't it his kick to corner for Minikin in cup game at home against saints? That was an outstanding trythe happy hooker9 wrote:As one who has been critical of his non appearance over the last year, I have to hold my hand up and give the man a big rap for doing the honourable thing and deciding to quit.

The one with gale at Leeds will always be a fan favourite and no one will ever forget his drop goal on the buzzer against saints

The guy has always been a class bloke and class on the field. Unfortunately we haven't been able to get him out there long enough lately.
The guy was absolutely lethal at 6 in the 2017. Our greatest ever season. Let's not forget that

Re: Ben Roberts
Correct, I only suggested a round of applause not build a statue or retire a shirt. I'm sure he'd have preferred to be out there playing, but why bother, when he can sit in the stands and give muppet's ammo to fire at him cause he's not playing. Yes I critised him and tbh I'm glad he's gone,in a playing sense as a player he was dead weight, he's a great guy and a few of his finest moments are a few of my favourite cas memories.dettoriman wrote:The guy has always been a class bloke and class on the field. Re: Ben Roberts
So to be clear, you whine about "todays society" because someone wants to show a bit of respect for someone who has served this club well for 4 years, but you're offended because you think someone thinking you're a muppet is "calling people names"...Fumper27 wrote:Calling people names just because they offered a different opinion to yours. Re: Ben Roberts
Was thinking the same. Seems pretty clear his contract wasn't going to be renewed after this year. So to decide to end it early can this mean one of 2 things ?the happy hooker9 wrote:Be interesting to see what we do with the quota space now available.........
1. Short of cash and need him off the wage bill (not likely)
2. Got a replacement / other player lined up to come in early
Re: Ben Roberts
Learn to read matey. Where did I say I was offended??? Where was o specifically referred to as a muppet??? I was merely pointing out that resorting to name calling because someone has a different opinion is childish.Squaddie86 wrote:So to be clear, you whine about "todays society" because someone wants to show a bit of respect for someone who has served this club well for 4 years, but you're offended because you think someone thinking you're a muppet is "calling people names"...Fumper27 wrote:Calling people names just because they offered a different opinion to yours. Re: Ben Roberts
The fact you felt the need to post about it all demonstrated your taking offence, and his reference to "muppets" was clearly aimed at you and other people like you. See my reading ability is quite good - I can infer things without needing people to spell things out for me.Fumper27 wrote:

Don't flatter yourself. I take things on here with a pinch of salt. I am far from being one of those sensitive souls who “get offended” at everything. Enjoy your evening.Squaddie86 wrote:The fact you felt the need to post about it all demonstrated your taking offence, and his reference to "muppets" was clearly aimed at you and other people like you. Re: Ben Roberts
I don't mind holding my hands and saying this is a very good move by the club. Value for money wise, he's been terrible over the last 18 months. However I feel it's only fair and respectful, that the fans should be allowed to show their gratitude to him for his efforts. Id be very surprised and disappointed, if he's not a guest at the game tomorrow, in order for the fans to give him the send off he deserves .

100% agree and i think most fans would say the same or i'd hope they wouldJonny1975 wrote:I don't mind holding my hands and saying this is a very good move by the club.
