Aid....your wasting your time. You give a logical answer and the doom mongers will just regurgitate an old answer....without really giving anything plausible back. There's no wonder this Forum is going down the pan.
Nobody is saying it's all perfect. What some of us are saying is it's not always possible to do what we want as a Club of our size. Bigger crowds will give us more to play with. As would more Corporate money. But we are tied. For a number of reasons. What we can do though, is get behind the team and stop seeing bad in everything. For God's sake....the season hasn't even started yet and people are writing us off. Let's see what happens n put a little trust in the Coaching staff.

How can it be better when we haven’t signed anyone?
Last seasons recruitment was poor. The club then realised and signed 3 players mid season, then done some squad housekeeping which we all thought would make room for new players
How wrong were we
In the off season between 2017 and 2018 Sts signed no-one yet ended up on top of the pile. Moving forward and improving as a squad is not just about new signings.
Them two are 2018 squad members so should be added to your list. Also QLT.
As for saints, look at the difference in quality, they know how to recruit good players, not trawl players out the championship like we have. They were one lucky penalty away from going to the grand final in 2017. Complete then, we currently aren’t.

Of course we did with the injuries we carried....are you really that stupid not to realise that?]
If I remember rightly we recruited last offseason for squad depth? :-k
so why was the injury card used?
Maybe mask over the fact we didn’t replace zak?
We couldn't replace ZH at the time cos we were still paying him and because it happened so late in the season, most players of his ilk were signed up already by other Clubs. The Coaching staff admitted that themselves. The Club tried to cover our star FBs absence in house....but it obviously didn't work out.
Re: Shirt numbers
ZH was sacked in October by steve gill so were not paying him.

Just remind me where Saints got Alex Walmsley from, oh that the right the same place we got Solomona and McMeekan from, the championship.

It can’t be money we have been recording profit for a good few years now. Especially with prize money from final appearances etc.

Solomona and Mcmeekan signed from London when they had just been relegated from SL so not actually the championship. Also, Saints have signed Batchelor from
York, so they do dip into the championship for the right player.

The club are still trying to recover from the Hardaker fiasco. Imagine the same thing happening at Saints with Barba last season. Reckon they would have been anywhere near top 4 ? Very much doubt it.

Our ground is is from the 1920s....so it limits us.
We made modest profits off the back of a trip to Wembley (with a side nowhere near as good as the one we have now) and a fantastic season that ended with us lifting the LLS and a trip to OT......crowds were up massively. The profits went back into the team. But we didn't make millions.
We've invested in youth, at some point we have to give these talented lads a chance to step up. It's not always about throwing money at big signings all the time. Sometimes it pays off waiting for the right player.

And Saints won what exactly...?
Trawling the Championship has always happened. Player develop at different rates. Where did Jake Trueman come from, Zak Hardacre, Hill, Walmsley, Minikin, Matautia, to name a few.

Re: Shirt numbers
Two of our greatest players came from the lower league in Tawera Nikau and St John Ellis both York and add to that Graham Steadman via featherstone.
Re: Shirt numbers
I agree with this were not a team that can go out and sign a marquee and make everything right we've gone about trying to build a team under a very good coach and he's being hampered in his work by the likes of Carney chase to a lesser extent and zak to a major extentwesterbeast wrote:The club are still trying to recover from the Hardaker fiasco. I don't believe we've made all the right moves in the last twelve months but even if luke gales gone for the season Powell will keep the team around the top five this year some cap space will be freed up and we need to recruit very well for 2020

Webster like for like. Go on then who should that of been ?Jonny1975 wrote:Our three quarter line will be the weakest it's been for a few yrs. Minikin is not a centre, not big enough, not strong enough, never will be. A decent winger, an average centre. Least said about James Clare the better, stolen from under the noses of York last yr tells it's own story. Shenton is quite clearly, on some of last season's performances, in the twilight of his career. Some of his performances last season were poor. Peanut n Eden are v good, but other than them, none of our first choice 3 quarters would get in any other top 8 team. To compare our outside backs to that of a rivals is scary. I'm not a doom n gloom poster before anyone starts, I just say what I see. And we are well short of quality out wide, which is a shame as the pack is good enough to provide platforms for them. In conclusion it's massively short sighted by the club not to have replaced Webster with like for like, he will be sorely missed.

Webster's replacement was brought in seasons ago, MINIKIN ?
There's a reason he was being played on the wing and the likes of an ageing Webster & Shenton or out of position Wardle or Foster were preferred. He isn't good enough at the top level at centre in my opinion but is a good superleague standard winger. And playing him at centre means we also get the bang average at best Clare as a first choice winger weakening the threequarters still further.
Sorry but we were one or two clever signings away from really challenging this year, maybe doing something special. We seem to be trying to blow that opportunity and it's one that may not come round again for a good while.
In a salary-capped sport, where we are paying up to that maximum cap, where is the money coming from for those clever signings?
Not to be argumentative, but all those saying we are 2 centre's short of a very good side, how do you propose we pay for them?
And don't say release so and so...it's not that easy when they are under contract. Genuinely interested......
If we are up to salary cap we have made some bad deals but I don't believe we are up to salary cap. We should cheat with two marquee players not counting in salary cap like other top teams are . Not to bring a centre and winger in is very poor management for me that's what john wells job suppose to be improve team and squad. The same as other posters on this one want to be well off mark and hope were right up there again and not panic signing player after first few months.
What you on about cheat with marquee signings like others ?
Only the first 150k counts, so you can pay them 400k if you want but it dont all count.
