Golden point
FFS league weekly reporting super League will adopt golden point.
Do they listen to the fans at all? Games finish late enough as it is without the extra time added on.

Re: Golden point
Of the thousands of games I've watched in my lifetime the greatest game I have witnessed was won on golden point. If we can get anything like that drama win or lose I for one don't mind missing 15 minutes kip. Bring it on.Nobody wrote:FFS league weekly reporting super League will adopt golden point.

Re: Golden point
Wouldn't mind them on a weekend lol and possibly a Friday but it's a no from me on the Thursday nights, kids get in late enough as it is.braytontiger wrote:Of the thousands of games I've watched in my lifetime the greatest game I have witnessed was won on golden point. Agree with the golden point in play off games, the Luke Gale one in the semis was a rollercoaster of different emotions. Just don't see the need in a standard game if I'm honest.

Should suit us we've got one of the best field goal kickers around...

Re: Golden point
Whilst it is exciting sometimes a draw is a fair result and is part of the fabric of British regular season sport.
Re: Golden point
Why? What is wrong with a draw after 80 minutes it’s the fairest result, to me bolting on a chaotic drop kicking contest spoils it.
Re: Golden point
I don't mind the golden point for a cup match where there has to be a winner on the day but for a league match a draw is a perfectly valid result and should remain an option. I'd take a draw at Saints right now if it was offered!
I do wonder what goes on in the heads of those running the game. I have never heard fans complaining about the fact that a game can be drawn and only a handful of games are drawn anyway. People are not put off watching RL because of the possibility of a draw. They need to stop messing with the game and put more effort into promoting what we have.

A draw is a rarity in rugby league but when it happens it provides nerves and excitement for both sets of fans. Why ruin it?

I can’t think of another sport currently, where the rules change so dramatically every year. It’s like they pick them out of an hat in the off season.

Re: Golden point
For the amount of games that are draws it won’t impact too much anyway.
All for it in cup games because that is better than a replay and the game needs to be decided on the day. As has been said quite possibly the best dramatic end to a game I ever witnessed was the Saints game last year. Wouldn’t want to be on the end of a defeat too often though.

Re: Golden point
Bet the players in Perpignan in high summer will be thrilled at the thought of extra time if its level at 80 minutes.
You would think the S.L bosses would be trying to secure more sponsorship, more money through broadcasting rights etc than faff around with gimmicks like this. Changing things in the rule book every season makes the sport look small time & desperate.

Dropping free play as well and having a shot clock for drop outs like they do in nrl

Re: Golden point
according to the BBC this rule change is to be implemented from next season.
The RFL should be looking at how to turn around plummeting attendances in traditional RL areas than introducing gimmicks for armchair supporters in Saffron Walden

Personalty the many draws Ive seen over the years walking from the ground Ive been happy that its been an exciting game and a fair result. Sadly that's no longer going to be the case .. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Re: Golden point
Ridiculous! Sometimes a draw is the right result. Golden Point (should be golden try in my opinion) in knock out games is fair enough, but not in league games. We've seen some exciting draws over the years. Golden Point just turns a good game into a joke of a kick fest for 10 mins and ruins the game. Not a good move in my opinion. 7 Thursday games this season, 5 of them away that could now potentially mean getting back well after midnight for those that travel to away games. Super Leagues new strapline for supporters - #whoneedssleep. I don't often agree with Alf, but he's bang right about gimmicks for armchair supporters.
