Looking at this forum sometimes, is like looking at it when we used to have Matterson and Millward in charge. It's all doom and gloom with some people! wasn't that long ago we was having young lads nicked off us for peanuts, now we're keeping them and people still aren't happy. It's beggars belief.

I agree but it’s only a tiny minority and the whole forum is a tiny minority in the first place

Just cos we used to be rubbish doesn’t mean we should just settle for anything.
I wanna see us win trophies not keep seeing us lose at final hurdle.
3 players could see us winning something at last.

I bet most of them are new supporters who didn't see us under relegation with Matterson and Mercer.

You can't please everyone, but what do they want? Truey will be the future first choice England half in my opinion.

Great bit of business to stop anyone else coming in for him. No doubt he was on a lot of radar's.

Don’t under estimate the talent in this kid. We haven’t even seen a third of what he’s capable of yet. We just haven’t unleashed him fully. He has all the Rangi Chase style tricks in his armoury that has yet to be seen. Great bit of business by the club. The future is bright, the future is ......

This was great news He has all the talent for sure and shown leadership beyond his years hopefully will take over the Gale mantel in the long term

can't understand any negativity regarding this piece of news myself-great that WE have signed this talent to a long term deal and not allowed him to be poached. Also great that we have rewarded someone who has stepped up accordingly.Loyalty is a two way street and I am very happy with the club regarding this.

Funny that. I’ve just posted on another thread about when we only had one recognised centre..Arundel and spent most of the season with second rower Ferres as the other one!

You think this contract would stop someone like Warrington coming in with a 6-figure bid if JT has another stellar season in 2019??? Contract means nowt if any team bids enough brass.

Well if we took the six figures we would have money to spend and the longer there was left on his contract the more we would get so good business either way.

We would only take a six figure sum for him if we had our eye on someone better to replace him, so long as the club continues as it has been money won’t see us lose players that have committed to the club unless we think we can do better.

Happy he’s committed, but I’ll be honest and admit that I’m not brilliant at assessing young talent.

In other words, nothing about his game sticks out as potentially world class, or top notch. Imo.

When Danny came on the scene, I knew I was watching a potential future international. His balance and step, speed were obvious.

What am I missing.

I’m not being purposely disrespectful. Just ask8ng.

I suppose him being selected for the Knights Squad wpuld suggest that others see it. Can’t say I always agree with their thinking but he has far exceeded expectations for us this year

And for the record I wasn't being negative , I just don't understand the urgency to have him sign a 4 year deal when he just signed a 3 year one ?

Let’s hope second year syndrome doesn’t kick in.
He needs to continue were he left off.
Down to jake now, he’ll be our no6 next year or should be.
I’m sort of happy with the deal, just hope now he as his future for the next 4 years sorted, let’s hope he doesn’t sit back on his laurels and become complacent
He as all the makings of an international player, down the line.

Because the contract he was on was signed before he became a first team regular, picked for the knights and young player of the year. If you leave somebody who was good enough to play 27 games last season on an academy development type contract then they'll probably resent it and look for a move elsewhere. A la McLelland.
By putting him on a 4 year contract on decent money it will deter the likes of Warrington, Wigan or Leeds signing him up for a 30k transfer fee as a project signing.
As has been mentioned before we've all seen our good young players go elsewhere, then storm it.
For the first time since SL started we actually look like a club that's doing things the right way, long may it continue.
Probably the big difference between fans and coaches, we talk about Recruitment, they talk about Retention and Recruitment.

And also to add on to that, his contract ends in 2020. He’s free to talk to other clubs from April 2020. With that in mind, the club probably didn’t want to leave it 12 months, him to have another year at SL level and the big guns and sharks to start circling trying to prise him away.

Also bolts on 2 extra years to existing deal, probably with clear benchmarks and KPIs to get a better deal.

Jake is learning his trade and you can see how much he's come on.

His tackling and defence is good for a half back. A full off season with Gale will do him the world of good.
