And for the record I wasn't being negative , I just don't understand the urgency to have him sign a 4 year deal when he just signed a 3 year one ?

Let’s hope second year syndrome doesn’t kick in.
He needs to continue were he left off.
Down to jake now, he’ll be our no6 next year or should be.
I’m sort of happy with the deal, just hope now he as his future for the next 4 years sorted, let’s hope he doesn’t sit back on his laurels and become complacent
He as all the makings of an international player, down the line.

Because the contract he was on was signed before he became a first team regular, picked for the knights and young player of the year. If you leave somebody who was good enough to play 27 games last season on an academy development type contract then they'll probably resent it and look for a move elsewhere. A la McLelland.
By putting him on a 4 year contract on decent money it will deter the likes of Warrington, Wigan or Leeds signing him up for a 30k transfer fee as a project signing.
As has been mentioned before we've all seen our good young players go elsewhere, then storm it.
For the first time since SL started we actually look like a club that's doing things the right way, long may it continue.
Probably the big difference between fans and coaches, we talk about Recruitment, they talk about Retention and Recruitment.

And also to add on to that, his contract ends in 2020. He’s free to talk to other clubs from April 2020. With that in mind, the club probably didn’t want to leave it 12 months, him to have another year at SL level and the big guns and sharks to start circling trying to prise him away.

Also bolts on 2 extra years to existing deal, probably with clear benchmarks and KPIs to get a better deal.

Jake is learning his trade and you can see how much he's come on.

His tackling and defence is good for a half back. A full off season with Gale will do him the world of good.

What are the areas of his game that could be top notch though ?

Between the ears.
Fast thinking.
Foot work.
Got a good long passing game.
Knows when and when not to pass.
Vision.

Negatives are his lack of speed. Though hes not to bad tbh.
Hopefully we’ll see him in his full glory next year playing regular at the side of gale.
The future is bright.

Maybe another team have been asking questions regarding his availability
I don't have a favourite second team - it's Cas 100% for me

Without making him out to be the full package, which he isn't yet of course. The only area i'd like to see him improve in, is his support play. I really think he should be on the outside shoulder of Watts and Millington everytime, expecting that pass. If he adds this to his game, he’ll add even more tries. Richie Myler, although quicker than JT, has made a career out of backing up other players. Fortunately, for us, JT has the better skill set.

Continuity builds the support play. He didn't get much of that this year with ever changing half backs.
