the bit about the first training session mal took at the newcastle knights reminded me of when danny buderus was at leeds and him telling the story of that first training session and mal calling all the players one by one into his office he said we had some very hard men in the squad at the knights at that time but all of them were scared stiff of mal :)

I agree with his thoughts on the 10m rule. For me the ptb is slow and ugly and doesn't do the game any favours.

if my memory serves me right, the first game that I saw Mal he played in the center scoring two or three try's I thought what have we got here ,
