Director of Rugby

Post by callum_walker » 16 Mar 2018, 16:23

Thought I'd give my own view on the appointment of Jon Wells. Initially, I was skeptical because I believed such a role could cause issues in the coaching side of things, but with how quickly he acted with getting Watts to the club I've changed my mind: https://uk.blastingnews.com/sport/2018/ ... 25427.html

a good article, so does this mean we are no longer looking for a CEO?

I thought the new director role would mean the ceo duties would be divided. Is that the case does anyone know?

Jon Wells will take over the squad side of things as Director of Rugby, Mark Grattan the business side of things as Managing Director. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

If I read the article on "Love Rugby League" correctly, the restructure means no CEO, with Wells and Grattan doing the work that SG is doing as CEO. I wonder who the club's official spokesperson will be, the name at the top. Ian Fulton?

Excellent and insightful article, thank you Callum.
Enjoyed watching Wells when he played for us. ,combining playing and his legal studies.
Elsewhere on the forum he was referred to in a rather unflattering manner regarding his work on Sky.
For me he is the only one worth listening to rather than churn out hackneyed cliché.
I find his half time and full time touch screen analysis fascinating, I am sure he will be an asset to the coaching team .
His enthusiasm for Cas shines from him.
He is not without business acumen as he partner has a specialist sportswear shop.
If the role of C.E.O. has been split between. Jon and Mark for me it only raises my respect for Steve Gill as he took on the job when confidence, cash and wins were in short supply and build a trophy club from the brink of oblivion.
Welcome. Jon and welcome Mark in your new roles.
And a BIG THANK YOU TO STEVE GILL,

I’m pretty sure he’s a qualified solicitor too which should be handy if we have another tough contract problem to sort

Gas a degree in law and a masters but I don't believe he is a practicing certificate or taken the bar exams. Could be wrong though.

Fair enough but the legal background is still potentially useful
