Re: squad numbers
I didn't give Douglas a number cos I read he was on season long loan without recall, also I reckon DP will turn Aston into a back-up hooker.

Re: squad numbers
There are 35 players in the squad photo so may have to add in a few more kids!
And Douglas does have a recall option. All loans have a recall option after 1 month generally.

Re: squad numbers
Barring one or two selections I think we've all predicted roughly the same

Re: squad numbers
A lot depends on whether we keep same squad numbers for players to keep it consistent for branding and also for fans who have paid to have numbers on their shirts historically.the machine wrote:Barring one or two selections I think we've all predicted roughly the same
Or whether we go down a reward route and giving promoted numbers to players for performances for last year.
No offence to Holmes but given injuries he had, I think he will drop out of top 13 for someone like Wardle or JSL. Rest pick themselves for me.
Lo and Trueman should be chasing the 2 and 6 shirts in 2019.

Re: squad numbers
We all agree on the ideal starting 17, Hudds must know something we don't as he hasn't given our star signing Corey Aston a squad number !!!!

Re: squad numbers
from day one when squad numbers were brought in i didn't see what they brought to the table, before the lads used to fight to get into the team and make a position their own, nothings changed , only thing now is a mismatch of numbers instead of players being 1 to 17 it must be so confusing to any one new to the game to understand

Re: squad numbers
I disagree. Most sports fans will already know that teams operate with squad numbers. Look at the NFL, player numbers are a 'brand' and have no bearing on position (from what I know).gateman wrote:from day one when squad numbers were brought in i didn't see what they brought to the table, before the lads used to fight to get into the team and make a position their own, nothings changed , only thing now is a mismatch of numbers instead of players being 1 to 17 it must be so confusing to any one new to the game to understand
Football the only that's standard is 1 being the goalkeeper. Even then that's not always the case. And it used to be the case that 4 and 5 were central defenders and 11 and 7 being midfielders. Now you have 4 as a midfielder and strikers wearing 11 and 7, or being able to pick the numbers they want.
You learn who the players are by their positioning not by squad numbers. In most cases it will be:
WING-CENTRE-HALF-SECOND-ROW-PROP-HOOKER-LOOSE FORWARD-PROP-SECOND ROW-HALF-CENTRE-WING
FULL BACK

Re: squad numbers
Shows you are still young Hudds, at soccer, 4 and 6 were wing - halves, 7 and 11 were out and out wingers, 10 was the creative player. Oh well time moves on. and not to forget they had linesmen, think we have always had touch-judges in our sport.HuddsTigers wrote:I disagree. Re: squad numbers
Just calling them central defenders rather than centre half shows age.

Probably so! Bring back inside backs and inside forwards, as well as sweepers!

All though they do look random the numbers in NFL are actually determined by what positions they playHuddsTigers wrote:I disagree. works both ways. it's confusing for positions yes but if you have a different number 8 every week that could also confuse a newbee
