Re: Castleford Tigers head of youth resigned
Six and two threes really, example Johnson, we have McMeeken, Holmes, Wardle and Foster, all with years in front of them. With the constrictions of the salary cap how can we offer the likes of Johnson the money their agents tell them they're worth when they're probably 2 or 3 years away from the first team ?
Sharlo would you class last year's "journeymen" such as Cook, Webster, Eden, Gale, McShane etc as disappointing or not good enough ?

Not only that, which can turn around youth prospects into SL players in just 3 years, most of which he will never have recruited. The 16 year olds we recruited in 2015, back when our youth academy had been put on the back burner a bit, will only be reaching the final year of their development at 19.TT Tiger wrote:MaherSharlotiger wrote:Does it matter who the replacement is we never give youth a chance under Powell , he would rather bring in journeymen to fill up the squad.Dez wrote:Will be very badly missed. His work behind the scenes was immense. Lets hope for a good replacement
We have not produced a super league player since Daryl Clark, very sad for a team that used to pride itself on homegrown talent.
Trueman
Gill
We also produced Will Dagger.
Not all to the ability of Daz Clark what team produces a super league player every year from there academy?

Trueman came from Bradford and Dagger was on Wakeys books wasn’t he?TT Tiger wrote:MaherSharlotiger wrote:Does it matter who the replacement is we never give youth a chance under Powell , he would rather bring in journeymen to fill up the squad.Dez wrote:Will be very badly missed. It's irrelevant on that front really, according to the laws of the game.
Trueman will play years for us before the age of 21 (fingers crossed) so counts as a Cas homegrown player.
And arguably, I agree with the point. He started out at Bradford but only as an academy player - it's Cas that have turned him into a Super League player and where he will get most of his learning and development to become a senior player.

Ive no idea what the union sq programne are paying him or what he was offered to stay at cas , but the interview he gave after it was announced he was leaving was one of the most interesting i saw last year and it was clear it wasnt all about money he talked of the need for teams to run a reserve grade young players getting caught always being on loan and the need for young players to see a clear pathway forwardgateman wrote:MCLELLAND, for me was the best of the last crop of players, the lad always impressed me, but when rugby union clubs come flashing the cash i don't think the club could have matched any were near the potential earnings he can expect from rugby union

Re: Castleford Tigers head of youth resigned
I along with most Rugby fans, appreciate a lot of academy players will never make the grade, just a fact. What we also know is there are some very good kids, being released because of not being able to stay at the club, that has nurtured their obvious talent. We appreciate the constraints clubs are under with regards to the salary cap. Wonder if it would be possible to open an under 21 grade, most of these lads I am sure would stay with club, they will be getting a wage, albeit not a fortune, but a chance to expand their talent and learn the game more.
Gateman may have heard of Matty English, a 20 year old prop at Huddersfield. He has captained England through different age groups, but now finds he is only on the fringe of getting a 1st team game. Huddersfield know the lad has talent and wanted to loan him out, but now have given him a contract stating he will be given at least 6 first team games, with it probably rising to 8. He is over the moon with this option, as also the club are. They don't want to lose him, and he is happy getting a wage each month, while accepting he is still learning, and young for a prop-forward. Perhaps something other clubs could look at.

Firstly it wasn’t about whether he is technically classed as homegrown or not but if you want semantics he isn’t as he’s only been at Cas one year, it will be another two before he would count. It’s a bit disingenuous to suggest we have developed him into a superleague player, he was already well on the way when we got him. We have hardly moulded him from scholorship level, thats to Bradfords credit.HuddsTigers wrote:It's irrelevant on that front really, according to the laws of the game.

The main reason McClellan left cas was on the back of cas signing Cory Ashton. The kid has stated he did not really want to leave cas however it was obious to him his path was being blocked and it was cas who made the decision to sell him.not the other way around

I dont know how to put links up on here but if anybody looks at the evening post on the 27th of nov last year it clearly says callum turned down the offer of a new deal at cas to join the rugby union sq programme

He turned down the offer because he knew he wouldn't be getting any game time, for some time.tigerfeat wrote:I dont know how to put links up on here but if anybody looks at the evening post on the 27th of nov last year it clearly says callum turned down the offer of a new deal at cas to join the rugby union sq programme
Realistically, we've lost our FB for at least 2 years, instead of turning to Callum as No.2 (Behind Roberts), id put money on us playing Eden, Hitchcox, Clare before before him.

Apologies, wrong Callum. Though the same does apply to Callum Turner.TownvillesTiger wrote:He turned down the offer because he knew he wouldn't be getting any game time, for some time.tigerfeat wrote:I dont know how to put links up on here but if anybody looks at the evening post on the 27th of nov last year it clearly says callum turned down the offer of a new deal at cas to join the rugby union sq programme

Exactly powells last thought is to play any of the youngsters but the team won the league last year by a record margin so it is what it is ...

And the under 19's reached the GF so they must have some talent.tigerfeat wrote:Exactly powells last thought is to play any of the youngsters but the team won the league last year by a record margin so it is what it is ...

He wont play Eden but i suspect Clare will play FB if Roberts gets injured.TownvillesTiger wrote:He turned down the offer because he knew he wouldn't be getting any game time, for some time.tigerfeat wrote:I dont know how to put links up on here but if anybody looks at the evening post on the 27th of nov last year it clearly says callum turned down the offer of a new deal at cas to join the rugby union sq programme

Why have the under 19 England FB if your not going to use him. It would be ideal to ease him in over next 2 years cos there isn't a cat in hells chance that Roberts will play every game.

No idea why we have even signed Cory Ashton, he's not needed.caslad69 wrote:The main reason McClellan left cas was on the back of cas signing Cory Ashton. Re: Castleford Tigers head of youth resigned
Just to dispel any conspiracy theory’s about DP not giving any youngsters a chance, in 2016 Conner Fitzimmons, Greg Minikin and Brandon Douglas made their Super League debuts and in 2017 Kieran Gill, Jacob Trueman and Touyo Egodo made their debuts also. So if someone can tell me a club who has given more debuts over the past two years I’d be interested to know
