Next season

Post by Lofthouse Tiger » 16 Nov 2017, 13:58

Looking at this year and forward to next knowing how difficult things could be, if you had a choice of 2 scenarios which one would you pick.

1 - CC Final win but no play offs.

2 - GF Runners up and no cup run.

Option 1 for me.

We wont be relegated with our team. There is no way Salford, Widnes, Hudds, HKR and Catalans will finish above us.

Question is these days is who can finish above us? I reckon Saints could and after that we are as good as the rest.

Weekend in London with a Cup Final win would be fantastic after last season.

No reason why we can't have option 3:
CC win, reach the play-off n then see what happens.....

I personally think we will miss out on the top 4 this season (i am usually pessimistic).

Option 1 for me.

Winning the league last season with a 10 point exceeded every ones expectations, there will after be a massive reversal of form for us to not get into the top four , the bookies agree last time I looked they had us as favourites to win the league, if I had to pick the challenge cup at Wembley or the grand final give me Wembley every day of the week, fingers crossed another Wembley appearance next year will do me fine

I'll go with the bookies they usually come out on top, they have Cas as favourites to come top of the pile again.

Grand final for me. We've just had a great season winning just about every week. That is the sort of form you need to get into the top 4 to qualify to have a chance of O.T. So if we get there again it will mean we will have heard a lot of sweet Caroline. Compare that to C.C. final. We could lose all year and come bottom and go home miserable every week but a couple of fortuitous cup wins against lower league opposition and a bit of luck in a semi and we make it to Wembley. To me there is no comparison I'll take2017 again any day COYF.....See you all boxing day

Wembley win for me, want to see us win a major final. Flew over for 2014 Challenge Cup and this year for GF, both big disappointments. To top it went to both with a good mate who's a Rhino's fan!!

I remember bout this time last year backing cas top league 16s and win grand final 18s cracking value , zero appeal at 4-1 this time tho ive had a bet at 9-2 to win c.cup

See what you are saying but that would be a spooky season after last season. I just think a few teams will have better plans to stop us and we will not win as many as last season.

Having said that DP will probably have plans to change a few things as well. Would still love a CC weekend with a win. The GF was a disasterous day and I would hate that experience again.

Still haven’t got over that lose....never will.
I do think it will give us that extra drive to do it again.
Won’t be to disappointed if we don’t get there, well i will a bit.

You can’t beat a challenge cup final though, just wish it was supported more by the fans.
Anyhow, for me a top 4 finish and a trip and win to Wembley will do me.

I really can’t see us playing the fast sublime rugby we played for the first 6 months of the season.
I think other clubs have Sussed us out, I just hope DP throws a spanner in other teams tactics to try and stop us.

Our aim has got to be getting to the grand final again. A good cup run would be nice, but i'd like us to show everyone that we weren't just a one hit (year) wonder.

We won the League Leaders Shield at a canter last season, this time round I'd rather we went all out for the grand final, a bit more squad rotation and resting of players on the way this year so they're primed come the business end of the season

As a guide for next season, I split last season into two halves of 15 SL games.

First half, scored 537 with 254 against, points difference of 283, average score each match of 35.8 vs 16.9 (win by about 19)

Second half, scored 428 with 282 against, difference of 146, average score each match of 28.5 vs 18.8 (win by about 10)

What were the reasons? Teams working us out? Our element of surprise gone?

If we extrapolate those figures into 2018 it suggests we won't have it quite as easy next time around. Some teams have strengthened, some fans think we haven't!

I will only acknowledge that Leeds are Champs because the RFL calls them Champs, as the league winners achievements are hardly recognised because we have a 30 game qualifying competition for two semis and a final to decide the champions. We were the best side.
