season 2018 top four predictions

Post by gateman » 08 Nov 2017, 21:08

Top--CAS even without ZAK we still look very strong, some shrewd signings, the Bookies agree
2ND--Saints looked very strong towards the back end, Barber will only get better
3RD--Warrington they have been splashing the cash and with a new coach they could go along way
4TH--Hull a very solid side big and strong across the park they may miss Ellis for his leadership on the field

In no particular order:

Saints
Leeds
Hull
Wigan

I say in no particular order because, as we all found out on the 7th of October, it doesn't matter.

Cas will finish 6th i think.

Saints
Hull
Wigan
Leeds

Top 6 for us with squad as it stands.

Sounds pessimistic but it's how I feel about it based on our end of season form (we were lucky in the semi v Saints)

1. Saints (I think they will carry on progressing as per the end of last season)
2. Wigan (Reluctantly but they are due a top four finish)
3. Hull (They wont miss Ellis that much)
4. Cas (Without Hardaker I cant see us finishing top again)

Gateman can’t believe that you have said we have made some shrewd signings... I am so dissapointed with the recruitment for next season. Feels to me that all cas have signed apart from wardle the players we have signed are the good old cheap option . Attendances up last season, sponsorship has got to be up on last season. Made the grand final so where the hell is the money getting spent

Sponsorship only takes effect a couple of years after in reality. When deals are done there's no guarantee the club will repeat what they did or that they'll get the same exposure again. We need to be a consistent top 4 side before that starts pushing up.

Also, people think money going up equates to it being spent on the playing squad only - it doesn't. There's all the off-field staff, equipment and extra budgets for young players too.

As for top 4, I can't see why Wire are being put in the top 4. They haven't got squad depth and there's no guarantee new overseas recruits will settle, nor accounting for how long that will take.

For me, it will be:

Saints at the top and then Wigan, Hull, Cas, Leeds for 2nd-5th. Wire 6th.
