World Club Challenge matches

Post by Tamworth Tiger » 17 Sep 2017, 17:46

Disappointing to hear Steve Gill's interview on the Radfio at half time saying Melbourne Storm have stated they won't be coming over in February
Wonder if we will get a game? If not I'm sure it will be nothing to do with Hull and Wigan preemptively devaluing the whole concept!

Thought the winners of the NRL Grand Final were obliged to play as it's an agreement between the RFL and the NRL?

Well Melbourne are top at the moment. All I am repeating is what Steve said in the radio interview so I suppose it's 'watch this space'

Melbourne v Brisbane and Sydney v North Queensland are the two semi-finals.
If Melbourne don't want to play in the WCC, I hope they don't win the GF.

If Melbourne don't want to come surely the NRL will choose the runners up or one of the losing semi-finalists, providing Melbourne win the Grand Final.

There's no obligation to come over.

If they don't want to take part, they don't have to.

That's the fairly self evident bit. What I'm not clear about is whether
A. They would play if they didn't have to travel
B There is or is not an agreement with the NRL
C. Anyone else would play us if we were Champions
D. If not would we win by default

If you look at Melbourne's squad most will be on World Cup duty. Given that most won't be back in pre season long. I wouldn't want to see their shadow side...i would want to see their best like Smith,Bromwich,Munster,Slater,Cronk, those wingers who's names i couldn't possibly spell!

Bellamy's priority would be to defend the NRL crown if they won it. If you turn the argument around and we went down under in Feb,came back and lost our 1st three league games we'd all start moaning!

True and as far as World Cup duty is concerned the same applies to us potentially in terms of squad numbers, which makes what Hull and Wigan are doing interesting
