Yes Wigan could very easily go on a run to the top 4. They are getting injured players back and have the been there/done that experience. It would help us if they and Hull made the Challenge Cup final and battered each other for 80 minutes!stuey wrote:Agree re Wigan. They always peak at the seasons end. Wigan and Saints will do well to make the top 4 from where they are, given who they have to play.duke street 10 wrote:Yes Wigan could very easily go on a run to the top 4. Re: The run-in, permutations and possibilities
That would effectively give them 3 weeks off as the CC weekend is in there aswel.nottinghamtiger wrote:I'd also be resting Gale, Hardaker and McMeekan for the trip to Catalans. Leave them at home with their feet up and give them a two-week break.
I wouldn't be resting anyone until we've got the LLS wrapped up.

Too long off they will be rusty. If were going to rest them (not that they should need it as we now have 2 free weekends i'd do it when we play Catalan in 2 weeks time assuming we win the next 2.
They then have a week off in July and August before the Semi & GF come round.

Re: The run-in, permutations and possibilities
Lets face it Catalans are a grubby team,if they need the 2 points to make the super 8s they will stop at nothing to get the result. I'd rest the likes of Gale,Hardaker,McShane & Millington if thats the case.
I think last season the players got time off around the Wembley final, seemed to work for them as they did well results wise in the Super 8s, i'm guessing the coaching staff will do the same this year.

Re: The run-in, permutations and possibilities
I know we are on course for finishing top after 23 rounds getting 4 home games and the LLS in round 30 but does anyone know the formula for who we would drew in rounds 24 to 30 ?
If the league ended as it is now after round 23 - what would the fixtures be ?

Re: The run-in, permutations and possibilities
Home - Salford - Leeds - wakey - Saints
Away - Hull - Wigan - Huddersfield
If it finished how it is now.
2nd 3rd 5th and 6th at home I believe.

How many of them do we need to win to get to semis
Re: The run-in, permutations and possibilities
To be in the semi final we are currently 12 points above Wakey who sit 5th but with a far superior PD which is good enough for another win. So Wakey need to win 7 more games than us with 9 to play for us not to make the play offs.....
I would put my house on that we are basically already there haha but not mathematically yet.

Probably our last 2 fixtures of regular season to be in the top 4.old cas lass wrote:InTheKnow wrote:Home - Salford - Leeds - wakey - Saints

Probably 3 wins to get a home semi.

Re: The run-in, permutations and possibilities
For a home play off Salford or Leeds (whoever loses today) would have to win 6 more than us with 9 to play for us to finish 3rd. Again. A very tough ask for anyone to knock us out of top 2.
Re: The run-in, permutations and possibilities
Officially yes but that would mean the chasing pack would have to win all there remaining games which can't happen as they play each other etc....HuddsTigers wrote:Probably our last 2 fixtures of regular season to be in the top 4.old cas lass wrote:InTheKnow wrote:Home - Salford - Leeds - wakey - Saints

Even if we only won 1 from 9. To be knocked off top spot Leeds or Salford have to win 7 of their last 10.
Re: The run-in, permutations and possibilities
Try make this easy.
To be knocked off LLS the following has to happen -
If Cas win 1 from 9 -
Salford or Leeds must win 7 from 10
Hull must win 7 from 9
If Cas win 2 from 9 -
Salford or Leeds must win 8 from 10
Hull must win 8 from 9
If Cas win 3 from 9 -
Salford or Leeds must win 9 from 10
Hull must win every game
The fact that Leeds have to play Salford and Hull twice plus Hull play Salford once means 2 of these teams are gauranteed to drop points.
Take from it what you will but I honestly think 1 or 2 wins will be enough to win LLS

Re: The run-in, permutations and possibilities
However 1 or 2 wins would also mean we go into the play offs on a massive downer and out of form so we still have to try and win every game we can for the confidence.
Re: The run-in, permutations and possibilities
The Super 8's Fixtures formula from last season, so I am assuming it will be the same this season.
Here's hoping that Catalans don't make the 8, because if they do, no doubt we will have to travel there again come the Super 8s!

Re: The run-in, permutations and possibilities
Yes that's what it was last year, so I am assuming it's what it is, this season. However I am sure I saw somewhere, or someone posted, that this seasons formula has been up on a website / link for some time now, maybe weeks or months. If so anybody know where it is. I heard the RFL did this, so that everybody knew what the formula / permutations were, long before the final positions were known. Presumably so they cannot then be accused of manipulating them to certain teams advantages.Danny Boy wrote:The Super 8's Fixtures formula from last season, so I am assuming it will be the same this season.

If so, they really also ought to have done the fixtures well beforehand also, even though well before teams positions are known. eg Week 1 Position 1 will play position 5 position 2 v 7 etc, etc. and so forth all the way to week 7. Or 24 to 30, which ever way you look at it. Then it all looks fair, as there will be little advantages. I mean you would like whoever gets to Wembley, the week before, or maybe even the week after. Also anyone battling all the way for a top 4 slot, would probably want us the week before the play offs, bearing in mind we will almost certainly have already won the LLS and will in all likelihood rest a few players in the last game before the play offs.

Re: The run-in, permutations and possibilities
Cheering for Wigan tonight then? I don't think we will be the only one's who want Catalan out of the top 8's.
Besides i'd like Perpignan to sample the delights of Fev's travelling support!

Thanks for the replies guys.

Once we secure l.l.s and number one seed it will be interesting how d.p rests players and keeps momentum going so we reach semi final at our peak
The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have
