The Best Teams....
Find a way to win. We were sloppy but got the W. Credit to Widnes who played us at our own game and it worked for them. Probably deserved to win.
Eden showing why we dont miss Solomona. Great 2nd try.
Did JSL play the full 80? sure he did. The guy is class and my MOM.

Re: The Best Teams....
I normally find the positives but not tonight. Looked like we felt we deserved to win just for turning up. Expect a better 80 on Monday!
Re: The Best Teams....
Widnes had a game plan to snuff us out by moving up quickly (too quickly on many occasions but were allowed to do so) and it worked. Couldn't get into a full flow in attack. Thought defence was wea at times, just stood around and let them make a play when one wasn't on and allowed them through the gap. But fair play to the lads, they stucl at it and found the tries when needed. Nest teams win even when they don't play their best.

at 10-22 I couldn't see us winning as we were so flat.at the end of the day a wins a win and nobody can be taken for granted as leigh showed at hull.we will need to play better on Monday.

Unfortunately, the best teams also rarely going into the games looking lethargic and like the win was already in the bag as well.
Luckily they decided to play for 10 minutes and that was enough to beat a team that isn't going to be in the league next season.

Very lucky last night. Looked like a mixture of us turning up expecting to run in 50 and Widnes playing well above current form.
As others have stated we should be on the look out for another prop & a centre for next season. I'm not sure Minikin is the long term answer at centre...as a winger he is excellent though. Looks like McMeeken could do with a rest along with Millington but we look a little short of bodies and aren't sure how long Patrick is off or the Oli Holmes mystery.

Re: The Best Teams....
Thought we looked really flat for most of that game, maybe it was a hangover from MW and the mindset of playing a team bottom of the league with most of their 1st team missing. For large parts it felt like a pre-season friendly with no real intensity. When we got back to 22-20 I thought we'd finally switch on but there was a spell again when we kept handing possession over and at that point I felt Widnes would score again and that would be game over. But like the Wigans, Leeds and St's have done in the past they found a way to win when playing poorly and in hindsight that can only be good for the team going forward (no good for my ticker mind!).
JSL was again immense last night and my MOM, closely followed by Millo and Eden (that catch was outstanding and he seems to be able to take the difficult ones but drops the bread and butter ones! Maybe when he's got too much time to think about it he loses concentration? :-k )
Widnes can take a lot of heart from that performance and can feel gutted not to have won in the end.

Don't agree. Most teams have at least a couple of off games a season no matter how good they are.TheSheriff wrote:Unfortunately, the best teams also rarely going into the games looking lethargic and like the win was already in the bag as well.

Wigan got pumped last year by Wakefield as an example.

Exactly and Wigan went on to win it. Poor games are something to learn on. To get a win from poor games is a bonus.HuddsTigers wrote:Wigan got pumped last year by Wakefield as an example.

Re: The Best Teams....
Widnes played us at our own game.
I think a certain Mr Chase gave them our play book and they used it well.
They were quick to snuff out our plays and were allowed to encroach into our tens yards if you can get away with it you would be foolish not to do so.
Gadwin seems to have upped his game not back to his best but much better than recent games.
Benny looked a bit rusty ,JSL awesome,Cook put in some good runs.Monners experience kept us in the game as for Eden he certainly knows his way to the try line.
Another two points and lessons to be learned.
Spoke briefly with Ollie Holmes recovering from recent knee surgery,a little cagey when asked about a return to the fray or l could be reading far too much into it.

Re: The Best Teams....
We'd have lost this game in years gone by,
The best teams also continue to look to the future and recruit from a position of strength. It's time to strengthen again right now IMO.

Agree with all you've said. We need to kick on from the good start made and not rest on our laurels.Mysterio wrote:We'd have lost this game in years gone by,
