I think it was a Regal Trophy tie in the early 90s. Seemed to remember Tony Smith scoring in it?.

Wasn't there a league game when Steadman scored a hat-trick and I'm sure the highlights were on Scrumdown but not sure of year.
Wasn't Kevin Ward playing in the cup game for Saints and he got sent off for tripping? Or was that earlier?

I went to Knowsley Road as a young lad in the mid 70s for a cup game.

We were 18-3 down (in old money) at half time. We came back and won. The scenes after the game were ugly in the surrounding streets. Coaches got bricked. Not good.

I remember Dean Sampson scoring a hat-trick there, all in the space of about ten minutes. We conceded early tries until Deano played the best ten minutes of his career! A late comeback looked to have given Saints the win (Newlove scored a try that looked like the winner) but we scored on the bell and converted for a draw? 34-34 rings a bell.

That will be why I can't remember who scored the last try! Would have guessed a Maloney long-range effort but that might be another game over at Saints!

It was the correct decision as the ref hadn't set the mark for the penalty. Obviously!

I was at Saints on 8 Feb 1964 in cup first round. We won 13-6.
Ray French and Alex Murphy played for them. It was a surprise result, and the day I ate my last ever doughnut!
I bought a full packet at a corner shop before boarding the bus home, ate the lot and was sick as a dog on the bus, much to the driver's displeasure. Never had one since, can't face them.

The last time we beat St. Helens away in the league was October 21st 1990 we won 29-16
The last time we beat them away in a cup competition was December 19th 1992 in the Q.F. of the Regal Trophy 12-8
My records don't go back far enough to see if we have beaten them away in the Challenge Cup as mine start in 1966, 3 years after i started supporting Castleford.

Think there's a real focus on this one and a big part of why we were so quiet in the 2nd half on Friday. The fact they travelled yesterday indicates the prep going in to this, almost like a cup tie.

It's been a long wait and Saints will be fired up, first game at home since KC went, but we are more than capable. COYF

Pretty much the same. That's probably because we always go to Sts fearing/expecting the worst. If we can get the defence right we will be OK, just need the same intensity and desire as the Wigan game. That is a game they went out determined to win and I think today will be the same.
