Mal reilly

Post by old cas lass » 30 Sep 2016, 15:13

He's done a brilliant 20min interview with rugby am.
I advise each and everyone to go check it out.
Don't know how to put the link on here, if you have Twitter go find rugby am.

Sad to hear him say he doesn't watch cas anymore , reasons he'd rather keep to himself.

It's a great interview.

Malcolm, along with others wanted to be involved with running the club. One way or another it didn't happen, and he allegedly wasn't best pleased with the outcome.

Mal is arguably the best player I have seen in a Cas shirt, but to walk away from the club if things are not going his way doesn't seem right, we all have fallouts , he would have been better staying around I am sure his time would have come, Mall if you read this thanks for the memories I can still see you throwing Colin Dixon over your shoulder at Wembley V Salford

Sorry Lurcher Burton Salmon now, but still same with carol singers. Just to add was a very good soccer player, his cousin Geoff Hutt was also a pro soccer player with Huddersfield Town in the sixties then played in Holland, great sporting family.

Mal played in a brutal era, when cameras weren't watching every move. I recall one test match Mal played against the Aussies when the Daily Mail headlines were "Get these animals off our TV screens"
He had a long feud with a player called Hogan, from Oldham, and it took a season or two, but Malcolm eventually settled it when Hogan got a broken jaw and Mal sent off. Happy days. As he said in the interview, he learned to get his retaliation in first.

Yes it was, he avoided playing against Mal for a season or 2 but Reilly finally caught up with him.

Malcolm does not suffer "fools" and frankly we have a few who think they know best.

A top man and a legend.

Interesting to hear Mal comment on slowing the play of the ball down by wrestling in the tackle and that this is not what the fans want to see. His solution was to limit the number of tacklers. I personally think that his solution is un-workable. My peference, to stop the wrestling and equally as importantly to stop the cheating by hands on the ball / knocking the ball out, would be to adopt the Australian system of two ref's on the pitch, where one policices the tackle and the other deals with getting defenders back the required 10 yards. This would allow the game to flow because the spoilers would not get away with so much.
I know we dont have enough experienced ref's at the moment but adopting this system of pairing novices with more experienced ref's would create a natural progression.

Having just watched the 2016 Grand Final the 2 ref policing really does work
