Re: Super 8s, Anti-Climax!
Yes when we had that great run in '99 but otherwise it was always dominated by the usual suspects
Re: Super 8s, Anti-Climax!
The top 3 should go through and 4th play 5th to go through to the semi finals.
Similar to the qualifying 8s million pound game. It gives the chasing pack something to play for and makes the competition more competitive. Like us this year, not much chance of making the 4 but getting to 5th could be attainable.
4th could get the home tie. It would push the top 3 to ensure they don't drop the pace and then drop into the 4th place.

Only problem with that it makes an already congested calender another week longer, pushing international games a week further back and giving even less time for sides to prepare for the following season.Dazzyb wrote:The top 3 should go through and 4th play 5th to go through to the semi finals.

I know this is completely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things but I was curious to see how the table would look like if points were reset for the Super 8's.

I'm not sure of the specifics, was it 1st 8points, 2nd 7points....8th 1point?Evatiger wrote:How would it look implementing Steve gills idea?8 points for top 7 for second ect?legionited wrote:

If so:
Also shows 1st 4points, 2nd 3points, 3rd 2 points, 4th 1point, 5-8 0 points which I believe was suggested on here also.

Sky and the RFL should that their lucky stars and thank Cas. Apart from the odd result (Wigan v Widnes and Cats v Wire), this Super 8s has been dire. We are the only team that have made games interesting, hence the reason for moving the Saints game for Sky.

Re: Super 8s, Anti-Climax!
My idea for the Super 8's wasn't to quash or amend points at the end of the regular season.
But make the Super 8's double point matches.
Warrington 45
Hull Fc 42
Wigan 40
St Helens 40
Castleford 33
Catalans 30
Widnes 28
Wakefield 20
Now this wouldn't have made a world of difference in the way it is, as Saints have performed well and deserved a top 4 spot in the Super 8's. But it'd still gives teams chances of making up the ground quicker, if they beat the fellow "Top" sides, while still rewarding a strong regular season
I firmly believe this is the way it should happen.

How would double points make a difference? When the top sides won again they'd get 4'points too.....??dettoriman wrote:My idea for the Super 8's wasn't to quash or amend points at the end of the regular season.

Re: Super 8s, Anti-Climax!
It means that's we could still make the top 4 with 3 games to go rather than finishing outside for definite mean less dead rubbers and bigger crowds.Mysterio wrote:How would double points make a difference? Re: Super 8s, Anti-Climax!
Not quite as nice to look at this week, but I've updated the tables as per above.
If all teams restarted on 0 points.
If teams started on points based on their regular season finishing position.
If all teams restarted on 0 points.
If teams started on points based on their regular season finishing position.
Re: Super 8s, Anti-Climax!
I have no problem with the top eight, the rules are set before we kick a ball, as far as anti climax as always I will be sorry for the season to end but the players need to rest their bodies, after the Widnes match I will be looking forward to the friendly's I hope we have an home on boxing day

Post Round 7.
If all teams restarted on 0 points.
If teams started on points based on their regular season finishing position.
St Helens would have finished 1st under all 3 scenarios.
We would have finished 4th if points were reset or if the Top 4 teams started on 4/3/2/1 only.

Lenaghan does have a point.
This was I think the 5th time Huddersfield have finished bottom but only relegated once
