Re: new ground
I maybe wrong but an educated guess
1: exploratory work
2: boundary markings
3: ear marking for specific requirements roads, utility supplies
4: aerial geographical and geological data collection

there are warning signs up there ( GMI ) saying that they are doing site investigation work and to stick to footpaths ( which have been diverted ) there are pp notices at all the entries to the site and the portacabins etc are on hollywell farm.

They are trenches for archaeology purposes. This is to do with an application to discharge the condition in the planning application.
Lateral are going to be submitting applications over the coming weeks/months to discharge various conditions. They were expecting to submit Reserved Matters planning for 1st July but I'd expect this to be a month or two after now.

This is the message that was posted on Facebook yesterday:
As posted on Twitter:
Lateral to commence building of stadium in phase 3 of their development plan.
This will follow phase 1, which will be the site enabling works, which will follow discharge of Conditions 6 and 46.
Lateral to consult council and fans over summer 2016, with a view to starting on site in Autumn 2016.

Re: new ground
I had a walk through the site today. Down Spittal Hardwick lane onto the public footpath on your right and across the fields adjacent to the pylons. A team of workmen digging trenches and surveying. Then walked into Hollywell Woods and through the sand quarrey and into the farm near the George V Club. It's only when you have walked this route you realise how big the site actually is.
